Radio Wales reported this morning that the ladies who were insulated and came last at this year's race have been offered free places for next years race which has resulted in a backlash on social media. While there's no excuse for what took place I feel it's a bit of an insulated to offer these ladies a free place when there are people like my self who have been trying to get in for year = the last time I ran Flora was still sponsoring the race, and to those who have just missed out on Good for age and championship places! I'm not surprised so many runners have turned their back on London! I have plans for next spring and it doesn't involve London. Yes, I have entered the ballot but expecting the usual rejection e-mail back. I will say there are better marathons than London and easier to get into!

I wouldn't waste any energy about stories like this, Tracey. London Marathon is a business. London does not care about you or me. With close to half a million applications each year, most people are going to be disappointed. In fact, there's only one sure way to not be disappointed, and that's to run fast. Of course, not everyone can. London gets very upset by bad publicity - that's why they've made this gesture. In 2007, I was on the green start, with the celebrities on the front. Jade Goody (who didn't finish) and Jordan, who took over 7 hours were on the front row. I complained to Dave Bedford, the then Race Director. Doesn't Safety matter, these celebrities will get trampled? Safety is secondary to a good story. If London wasn't on TV, it would be a shadow of what it is today. Your last line is spot on! There are better marathons than London which are easier to get into. One of which you know very well. First of March 2020 at the centre of the universe. And a cwtch when you finish too! You wouldn't get that off Hugh Brasher!

You're so right Mick! My mugs got pride of place on my shelf. I'm running a bit further now so if things go well I may come and do it next year and I'll look forward to that cwtch! I started doing yoga now but the class is on a Tuesday so I'll have to look for another one when I'm ready for track.

No such problems of course at Barry, James. I reckon a 2:56 awaits you at Jenner Park. I'm sure Claire will be delighted to feed you on every lap if necessary!

As Alan knows, Barry is flat marathon I think they are doing an error in not giving Tracey a place in London. However, be wary, of head starts, at Barry, some runners seem to believe it is a 800 meter Barry is great, I think James would like it, and by the way HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAMES!!!Edited by user 20 July 2019 17:42:52(UTC)
