parkrun reaches 10 years in Wales.

On Saturday 17th February 2018 Cardiff parkrun will be celebrating its 10th Anniversary. Cardiff was the first event outside of England to set up and provide weekly Saturday morning runs, so as well as Cardiff reaching this milestone we believe it also Wales that has reached its first decade of running, as you are aware there has been a significant increase in events to be found in Wales over the past 10 years and the number now sits at 26 parkrun events and 11 junior parkrun events.

Along with the help of Tom Williams (Parkrun Global Manager) and Chris Davies (Lead Ambassador for Wales) we have been putting together some ideas and plans for this special anniversary. One way would like to do this is to ask all the parkrun’s in Wales if they would like to be represented at Cardiff on the day, we will get a photo taken of all the representatives present, we appreciate it that Cardiff isn’t on the doorstep for a lot of the events but it would be great to see as many as possible join us.

For our celebrations we have had to arrange a temporary change of venue for our post event get together as our normal café wouldn’t cope with the expected numbers. We will be using Llandaff Rugby Club which is just across the road from our course. The plan is to try and include some other aspects to the celebrations but these are still to be confirmed at present.

One way we hope to celebrate is by everyone wearing either a parkrun milestone t-shirt, one of the parkrun apricot shirts or by wearing red ~ obviously this includes Club vests.

We hope you can join us and we would love to see you all join in our celebrations.

This has got to be THE NO.1 most important and prestigious running events for Wales this year. Never mind the 10ks or the half marathon or anything else - Cardiff is the first parkrun set up outside of England and repeatedly has one of the highest attendance records. WE ROCK! Every week one of the most dedicated team of volunteers world-wide turns out to put on this run for us. It was Phil who brought this to Cardiff/Wales and it's been Les Croupiers folks who have provided the core support. We are exceptionally lucky and eternally grateful.

Phil, if you get requests, I'd happily offer accommodation to parkrunners visiting from further afield, we've got a double sofa bed, and are a 1.5 mile walk/jog from the start of parkrun.

How about getting loacl radio and tv involved? Msybe get some of the runners to tslk about oark run and running. Maybe getting someone from runners world to do an article. How about us members do a question and answer session afterwards for anyone thinking about joining a club or doing the cardiff half. Psrk is oftern the frist starting point for many people wishing to start running.

Amazing. But surely the focus for any 10th Anniversary celebration has got to be the week in/week out helpers (those that top the volunteer stats) and the Core Team?

Maybe introduce and embarrass each of them before the start? Their families and loved ones may also need some reacquaintance..

Runners should take second place (all 1000+ of them), with the exception of those that did the first Pk Run, a reassemblage of which would be fun.

Steve Owen also needs to dig out his daps - its ten years since he went into exile to cover off the turn at the bridge.

Just hope he has a barcode..
