Roy Silver or the WFRA site probably the best sources - both packed with info eg the bank holiday sub-tropical Machen Mtn race, or the 'Source of the Severn' fell that's just been run Mike Davies swears by the latter - I swore at the former...

Try the Welsh Fell Running Association, James. They've got a website and a Winter Series starting in October 2016. The races aren't excessively long but I'm sure that there are more experienced runners who can expand on the nature of the races available. They should provide an interesting challenge. http://www.wfra.me.uk

Snap - Tiramisu. I spoke to Dom Shields yesterday and he confirmed that many of the races do not require specialist orienteering skills - other than running up a bit and down a bit with a little bit across. Don't forget the views. Edited by user 05 September 2016 13:59:44(UTC)

Do not underestimate this race! Fantastic event. I did it a couple of times back in the '80's. There used to be a 'Do' at the local hotel after the race in the evening. Don't know if this still happens. Most people have to walk the ascent at some point & the decent is manic & rough. People trip & fall (e.g. me, who got cut to pieces on the shale). A good club runner that can get under the hour for 10 should be able to get under 90min for Snowdon with the appropriate leg strength training. The ascent takes about twice as long as the descent. Try Offa's 'Orror & Pentyrch Hill race. When the website goes live the places go in minutes. Very best of luck if you decide to do it! ps beware of the weather. It can be hot at the bottom & freezing at the top & cloudy. Edited by user 05 September 2016 21:22:20(UTC)
