Any chance of the club being affiliated to British/Welsh Triathlon?

Most local clubs appear to be these days and it's a pain joining second claim for this

We used to be, it was fine when I was organising the Duathlon events, but since then nobody was doing enough events or registering with WTA/BTF so it wasn't worth the club paying the fee. How many members are currently doing triathlons or duathlons and are prepared to pay the £35+ fee to register with WTA/BTF - it doesn't work the same way as athletics.

I was thinking of doing a tri and a duathlon, you get a day licence with entry into the Try a Tri, does it not work like this for most events? If it's worth it I would consider paying the £35.

Hi Matt,

The way it works is that a club affiliates to WTA/BTF (it would cost us £105 for affiliation and insurance) then the individual has to affiliate themselves, if you are a member of an affiliated club the individual then pays £40 each, if your club is not affiliated then the individual has to affiliate as an individual member and pays £51.

If you enter an event having affiliated by either of the above routes you pay the affiliated entry. If you are not affiliated then you pay the Day Licence fee - the equivalent to the Unattached fee for road races. The Day Licence fee looks to be around £3 per event but there is no clear guide line that I can see.

In my experience, day licences are generally £3-5 so, unless you're doing several races per year, it's not really worth paying for the affiliation. You do the 'rithmetic.
