Following on from the Newport Half Marathon fun - if I'm looking to enter an autumn half marathon to 'count' in the long course champs, what info/accreditation should I look for on a race website to be assured that it's a properly organised, recognised race? Ta.

Great question, Karen. Good races should quote their permit number, but the fact they don't quote it doesn't mean they don't have one. If you look on the website Power of 10 - chances are if last year's race was included, this year's should be also. Or ask members in the club what they know.

Past history of a race is a very good indictaor, though anything can go wrong!!! I did a half last year that was offical until on the day the marshall sent us slightly the wrong way so the course ended up being 1/4 mile short so it didn't count in power of 10. They got it right this year though......

Also, if in doubt, you can check a race with Phil, who is one of Wales' course officials - he has sight of what has been officially measured and licensed.

Cardiff Half. This years route will be the same as the world half in March. Bristal half is a good one but it might be full by now. Like Mick said look for things like permint number, race certificate etc... I also believe the Seven bridge half is good. Another good one is the Penbroke half marathorn orgainsed by Penbroke tri a very small field but goes all around country lanes although little bit hilly but good if you're not keen on crowds. I found that the Run Britain site tells you about the licence situation, whether its full, pending etc: http://www.runbritain.com/races?&distance=HM...but this doesn't necessary mean it has been officially measured/accredited.

Tracey, would love to run Cardiff Half as I've been unable to due to injury the last two years, however in 2015 I am hoping to volunteer for the half, in the hope that that means I can also volunteer in March 2016, which should be an absolute blast.
