The Echo can reveal that after lots of hard work over the winter, Les Croupiers has marked formal recognition of its development with a change of name. Les Croupiers has now become The Uphilldowndale Runners - a name that the clubs says reflects the different terrains members run over. The club, which was formed in 1972 and now has about 220 runners organises great races like the Welsh Castles Relays and the Barry 40, amongst others. A Club Spokesman said "To change the name the club has worked through a two year development plan". He added "We never have been a club that has concentrated solely on road running, and some say that the original shirt was to have the cartoon character the Road Runner emblazoned across it. For this reason a Road Runner will now be on the famous Red and green shirt and I'm sure members will wear it with pride! He added: "The change of name is designed to show the community and runners everywhere that we encourage running in all of its forms.
