This is a plea to Les Croups Members for support !
I have been organising my annual village race for over 15 years and many Les Croups members have competed within it during that time. Over the last few years our competitors numbers have declined due to a number of various reasons,(the recession, travel distance, other races, race distance too short, you name it). Last year, after low entries, I decided it was my last time to organise it, but Mike Davies and Alan Perkins (Port Talbot H.) convinced me to have one more shot at it. Our Village also enjoy watching the event.
Therefore I am asking for any support from the club.
The race is probably the best value for money around, (except Park Run) it is £4.00 with a free drink (Alcoholic for over 18's) and Burger to all finishers. Entries on the Day. It is also permitted. The race is undulating, mainly off road through forestry, with a small stream to navigate and the occasional fallen tree to hurdle, but only 3k in distance. It is part of our village Fun Day, where we have Live Music all day, with Traditional Childrens Races, (Egg&Spoon, Sack, etc) Swing Boats, Donkey Rides, Owl Display and side shows, even an appearance of some "Frozen Characters" (Don't ask, beyond me) . A family day out.
The date is Saturday 18th July. 3pm Start. Please support it, as I and our village have enjoyed Les Croups presence over the years and it means that I will have to give more time to running than organising.
Coytrahen is situated about 2 miles off the M4, jct 36 (Sarn) on the A4063 road to Maesteg.

I can confirm this is a fun race to do-its like a miniature version of the pentyrch hill race!goes through the village and up a wooded hill-really pretty, there was also a fun tug of war competition the year I did it, and a craft fair.

I`ve ran this race a few times , it`s something a bit different with a nice village atmosphere. only wish I was fit enough to run, unfortunately my achillies is still playing up on hills. Please support Mel on this one, I`m sure you wont be disappointed, and a beer at the finish !!!

Yes we've done this in the past, all good traditional fun. Great for families.

Mel - I've put a summary of your post on facebook too, hopefully that will also drum up interest.

Many Thanks Amanda !
I hope it arouses some interest, as I didn't want the race to die. It has been going for over 15 years.

A fun tug-o-war? Far more serious than that.
I think that the rope has snapped from the tension of previous tussles. Not quite the Battle of the Roses but Les Croupiers v Port Talbot, if we can find a rope strong enough.

Good range of plants for sale last year and, yes Tim, lots of cake.

The route for the race does contain a challenging climb - up some 800 steps - or so it seems.

Mel, is there a minimum age for entry to this?
Also, I can see the race is at 3pm. What time do the other activities that you mention start/finish? Many thanks.

Karen.
The official age of a minor racing/competing over the 3k distance is 9/10 years on race day. I have never encouraged children as young as that to compete at Coytrahen though. Wouldn't deter anyone over 12, with their parents permission, though.
I put on traditional children's races, (running, egg & spoon and sack races) after I have worked out and presented the main race prizes, approx. 4.30pm. (from u/5's to teenage)
