I know there are quite a few Croups travelling up to Manchester to run the marathon. It would be great if we could arrange to meet up for a drink (or two) after the race - just like how we meet at the Old Shades in London. I know there are quite a few bars around the area close to the stadium. What do you all think? (will probably need to google places). There's also that new hotel (Hotel Football I think its called) located right beside Old Trafford. Im travelling up on Saturday afternoon (12:55 train) and staying at the Holiday Inn Media City - approx. 1 mile from the start. I've already sourced an Italian restaurant in very close proximity. Anyone else staying there? I'm open to any suggestions regarding a meeting place anyways - once its within crawling distance from the finish line

Aine - Me and Libby were thinking the same. Staying just outside Manchester but a meet straight after the race is a good idea. Unfortunately i won't be running as only up to a 12 mile long run since my injury. Will give you abuse from the sidelines :-)

My pace judgment has been really good, my target on my last race was 6.20 pace and I finished on 6.19. But thats judging something I have done many times. The problem here is I have no experience to base my target on. I was thinking of aiming for 7 minute miles which is about 3.02 pace, that gives me a bit of wiggle room to break 3.05. 3.05 is the good for age time for London and I see little point in trying to break 3 hours when I have something tangible to fight for. I think its best to give myself every chance of hitting that. I can always break 3 hours at the London Marathon next year. Something Mick also said was to run defensively.

We're staying at the Ramada Salford Quays which is about a mile away from yours Aine. We can join you at that Italian restaurant on Saturday evening if you like?
No plans yet post-marathon other than food and then heading back to Cardiff. Happy to meet up afterwards with all but I'll be finishing long after everyone else so you may have all gone home by then.

Sounds good Amanda - as long as you don't mind eating Italian food the evening before a marathon! The more the merrier.

Good idea Aine. I'm not running the marathon because of London the week after. I'll do a training run Saturday or Sunday that weekend, 7 min mile 10/12 miler Stu if that fits in with your training come along. I can eat pasta before and after a run so we'll be joining you in the Italian.

Definitely up for a post-race drink. If my mate in Manchester has any suggestions, I'll pass them on. For those of you staying near the finish, you might just find somewhere that' looks ok when you get there. As long as there a bar and chairs and the possibility of borrowing mobility aids, I doubt I'll care too much about anything else by that stage. Hopefully see some of you before the start too. On another note, I did email the organisers to see if there is a team competition within the main marathon event and if so, if club vests needed to be worn, but the response only referred to the relay teams, so I assume that's a No'.

Echo the above. Definitely up for post-race drinks. My cousin has a season ticket at OT so I'll check with him on location.
Up for Italian food on Saturday too.
It hadn't actually occurred to me not to wear my club vest. Now I realise I've never run a marathon in it before so I'd better fish it out for the last long run in the wind and the rain this weekend. Not that it ever rains in Manchester...

have you not seen my webbed feet.....
Good luck all in Manchester, i did it in 2013 and had an awesome time, beware of the massive hill on this course(speed bump). The support you get out in places like Altrincham is amazing.

Great. I'll book a table for 6 to start off with. The name of the restaurant is Prezzo and its located in Media City (Salford Quays). I'm guessing the Italian places will be popular on Saturday evening. Ange - I'll be thinking of that speed bump while plodding up the Black Cock hill in he morning!

Hi Croups, Good luck to all of you running the marathon, wish I could be with you!!. Me and me Julie spent some time up there over the New Year. There is a pub called the Matchstick man (hungry horse) by Salford Keys metro station and near the Ramada inn, not too far from Old Trafford. Also we had a breakfast in the Harvester in the Lowri centre which was very good value. We stayed a mile or so up river in a Campanile hotel. this was the Salford side of the river and about 10-15 mins walk into the centre, good value. There are many pubs in the centre but the one I would recommend you pay a visit if you have time is the Britons Protection. It`s a PROPER PUB !.No music etc. just good beers and shorts. It is a bit of a tourist attraction but has a lot of history, give it a google!. The pub is near Deansgate station. All the best, run and drink in the name of Les Croupiers...........

I'd be happy with the Matchstick man for meeting afterwards if it suits everyone?

Yes, its getting closer now. I got another e-mail saying that they have just posted out the race numbers. I booked a table for 8 (hope it covered the numbers that wish to come) at Prezzo Italian for 6:30 pm. Its located in Media City, Salford Quays. Heres the link: http://www.prezzorestaur...nt/manchester-media-cityBest of luck with your last few weeks of training.

Thanks for organising this Aine - presuming I'm one of the eight,
... rather than one over the eight :-)
