Just noted that this is on June 7th, which is a clash with the Castles. It probably needs dropping from the championships. Alternative needed? Blorenge or Skirrid in the winter?

Disaster! I love the Magic Roundabout! I've written to them to ask if there's any way they could move to 31 May. It's not only our club runners who will miss out but also many of the other regulars from other clubs.

James, can't have Roman Run in the off road champs as only about 6 miles out of the overall 16 are off road.

Not everyone will be running the castles and if people wanted to run this and help with the castles they can still do this. Unfortnatley races do clash and choices have to be made. Organisers have to hold races on dates given and unfornatley clashes happen if not with castles with something else.

I've heard back from the race organisers.

Date: Mon, Mar 2, 2015 at 8:35 AM
Subject: Re: Magic Roundabout race
To: Amanda Thompson

Hi Amanda. We had an on going problem as the race always clashed with the festival in Hay and we struggled with marshals. We decided to try another weekend when it was less difficult for the club members. We over looked the welsh castle relay. As it stands this year we will have to leave it where it is and review for next year. Thanks for letting us know. Will keep you informed.
Cheers

the castles event changed its date to when it usually is.
normally it wouldn't have clashed.

Had this email from Hayhotfooters today.

Hello

Well, it’s that time of year again, the lambs are gambolling in the fields (as opposed to gambling – they can’t hold the cards) the daffs are trumpeting to the skies and we’re getting ready for the Magic Roundabout again. This year our 10k off-road race will be held on 7th June – this is a week later than previously to try to avoid some of the traffic issues some competitors have had around the Hay Festival. As usual, it’s set on the stunning Begwns hills just north of Hay on Wye, with wonderful views to the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons. Entries have already started coming in, so get yourself along to www.hayhotfooters.co.uk for an application form, or you can enter online at Runnersworld. And in case you needed a reminder, here’s what a few competitors have said

Doesn’t get much better than this once again everything superb, cake selection at end for runners to die for

Great race, really well organised but most of all - GREAT FUN

Once again a well organised event and a run amongst fantastic scenery with a couple of testing gradients. This is a 1st class race and long may it continue!

It would be great to see you in June, and don’t forget, you won’t get a better selection of cakes!

thanks

Rachel Jones
Hotfooter and Cake Connoisseur

p.s. Whilst I’m on, another date for the diary, our other race, the Hay Hillraiser, will be on 6th September

But as stated previously, the date clashes with the Welsh Castles Relay - unfortunately.
So best not to book a place yet if you hope to run or volunteer for the Castles Relay that weekend please.

I am well aware it clashes with the castles Amanda but shock horror there are some members of the club that have no interest in running or volunteering at the castles!!!

On that note. The Castles is the club's big thing, a mad road trip running fest for over 1200 runners. It is what we are famous for. As well as all the organising, marshalling, time keeping, we put out 60 runners.

So if you can run then run. If you can't then drive. If you can't drive then marshal, and if you can't do that get someone to wheel you to the finish to cheer.

I love the Castles!

I'd just like to point out, for the benefit of the newer members, that you haven't stumbled across a thread concerning a 1970's kids TV programme !!!!!! Apparently, it's some sort of Fell Race. Also, the Castles are not just old buildings that used to be homes to Kings, Queens and other Noble Folk !!!!! That's a race too.

Hope this clears things up ??

I love that programme especially the dog. It has something to do with a magic circle of stones. There are many of us in the club who would love to run the castles but many never get the opportuntity. People can do both that weekend it realy up to the individual what they wish to do, it doen't make them any less of club member if they chose one event over the other. Still haven't heared anything about the Rack Raid yet. Castles has ghosts in then too! Why do you miss out Castle Coch? Is that because it is not a porper Castle? A foley built by the Marques of Bute as that's how he wanted castles to be. Too many ladybirds books I think!

As far as I'm aware, any runner in the club has the 'opportunity' to run in the Castles Relay. You *just* have to run quickly enough in a qualifying race/time trial.

(and presumably satisfy some administrative criteria about first claims etc.)

On the subject of the Magic Roundabout race: When I first heard of it, I thought it must be a road race near the badlands of Splott.

Committee was told the club has a place in the Rack Raid Tracey, speak to Mel about it as the two of you were going to do the organising for a club team.

The Magic Roundabout fell race is a cracking good one, I'm disappointed not to be able to do it this year.

If anyone has queries about qualifying for the club's teams in the Castles Relay please speak to Phil. Or if you want to be an equally valued member of the team as a volunteer speak to Richard Self (minibus drivers) or Mike Davies.

Agree with Hitchen, we all have the 'opportunity' to be part of the Castles team. I have been selected the last 2 years but would never take this selection for granted. With the full compliment of our fastest ladies available i am not sure I would be selected this year but that isn't an issue as i would want the club to put out the most competitive team possible to attempt to win the ladies title. That is what this team race is all about - winning.

If not selcted i would certainly volunteer to be part of the weekend and the club environment/mentality. As i am competitive I guess i would see what improvements i need to make in my training to gain selection the next year, possibly even cut back on my cake intake if necessary and not too drastic!

sorry to hijack this thread........
