Hi James. I have entered this and am happy to car share. I can drive if prefered and planned on taking Paul Morris who will need a lift.

Hi James and Clive, I intend to run it, though I will register on the day. I am happy to give a lift or to car share. (First time I am doing such a distance, still wonder whether it's a good idea...)

I'm also interested as I'd like to do it at least once. Happy to share costs.

lets work out a list of those running and wanting to car pool.. what time does the race start? and what time to leave cardiff..? Dirk, I dont want to put you off.. but I'd consider this a hard race. Make sure you have run a decent distance in training for this distance.. I'd say at least 16 miles+, if you've done this fine. But its far from flat.. and can be prone to bad weather. I will take a wind cheater / rain jacket to run.. make your own decision but this is the profile..Equally it could be lovely sunny day and its a wonderful part of wales.. I'm sure with a car pool we can have refreshments on way home... etc.. http://www.goodrunguide..../RouteMap/MyRoutes/77697At least the hill is over after 6 miles, it is approx 280 meters of height change which is about the same as caerphilly mountain, so difficult but not too bad.. just a bit more than route to the black cock.. Race start time is 1pm and I estimate 2 1/2 hours travelling time from Cardiff at a reasonable speed. Best to get there an hour before the start to take into account any problems and to allow for registration on the day. I calculate that 9.30 would be a reasonable time to set off but I am open to suggestions. I would rather get there too early especially for such a prestigious race and after my frustrating experience of missing out on the last off road race due to a number of road accidents.

Thanks James, for the pointers. I am aware that it is going to be a huge challenge for me - don't expect me to finish under 3 h.... Good luck! The weather will make a big difference you might be lucky. Its no fun run! Remember not to race down the downhill as there is too much of it! There is equally loads of uphill! Ouch See if you can beat my 2.27. I was aiming for 2.20 but capitulated on the last 3 mile.

It would be a smart move to carry some sort of lightweight weather protection like a foil blanket, as James sugests. I was caught in the blizzard last time but I literally got my head down and ran through it. Obviously the slower you are the more care you need to take. If I got stuck in those conditions much longer I don't think running would have been enough to protect me! Assume the worst as it will just come from nowhere! There were people shutting themselves in phone boxes heading back and all sorts when it started so just make sure your ready for it! People have suffered hypothermia on that course just ask Paul Morris.Disrespect it at your peril! Ask someone like Mick and he will tell you and he has won it.

Thank you Lyndon. Yes I did win it in 1987, but it was meant to be a hard run in preparation for London that year (which was in May). I don't think I completely recovered - so for all of you using this as a preparation for London (or whatever) be careful.

Ok James, we will see you there.
Gerry and Dirk, I am meeting Paul at Llandaff rugby club at 9.30 and you are welcome to join us. As a side note to Dirk I hope you have recovered from your illness and if so I would consider carefully about running such an arduous course so soon especially if you have limited experience of the distance. I ran the Gloucester 20 last year, a much easier course not long after a heavy cold and suffered very badly.

Thanks Clive, as it turned out, I was admitted to hospital last Sunday and I was just discharged this evening. So there is no way that I am running 20 miles this weekend. Though I will put it on my list for next year. Good luck to everyone who is racing. Dirk

Thanks again to Clive, nd well done also for getting better of me on the run in. What a course! In terms of scenery (if you had energy to take it in) - amazing. Hills hard however what really made it tough was the wind - seemed like gale force in places (Garmin complete underestimation) Here are links to results http://www.onlineraceresults.org.uk/and course map: https://connect.garmin.com/course/8984192

Well done James! Only 1 minute 43 seconds away from my time. Fantastic running from Matt too! In fact a good run by everyone who was brave enough to run it! Its one tough course and im convinced thats what did my Polpleitus in which took me weeks to recover from. I think it was a complete white out where the best of the scenery was! I may run it again in a year or two when my brain has forgotten the torture!
