I have definitely pencilled in taking part in the World Masters at Lyon in August. Track events are my goal, but there are also 5k, 10k, Half Marathon and Marathon events included within the schedule. A few members have shown an interest in competing there, but we haven't discussed anything further. Obviously the programme is lengthy I/E starting with the X/Country on the 4th August to the 16th for the Half and Marathon. We could reduce the stay though by missing the earlier events.
Dave Coles has contacted me and I am meeting him tomorrow to try to put together the possibility of setting up a club trip. Obviously it would have to cater for all competitors and would include some time for sightseeing etc. By going as a group, we could obviously reduce the costs of any individual bookings.
If you are remotely interested, (with definitely no commitment expected from you until we put a plan together) please put your name on this thread and we can then see if a club trip is worth pursuing. We will need to press on as I will have to book individually, should a club trip not materialise. I can post further info on this thread if a trip looks viable.

Mel and Dave. This sounds great. Paul and I are most definitely interested in a club trip to Lyon. We are both intending to do the track events specifically the 5000m which I think starts 6 August. We are IN !! An opportunity not to be missed for Masters athletes !!

I'm considering it but I'm not sure I can fit it in around Berlin marathon training. From the entry form it looks like 28€ registration fee plus 28€ per event and 39€ for the hm/marathon. Jon Goodall found a good deal on Expedia, from Heathrow (Bristol and Cardiff flights are not direct) staying at a four stsr Mercure hotel for 5 nights, it came in at £217 per person for two.

I'd possibly be interested in doing the marathon.

I'd be interested - probably half marathon rather than full, given likely temperatures in Lyon.

Definitely the marathon and possibly the 10k if reasonable number of days between.

For information, the half and the full marathons take place at the same time on 16 August (2 laps for the marathon).

As far as I could see on the schedule on the lyon2015.com website there is only a 5000 and 10000m on the track. If there is a 5k and 10k road race then I might be interested in those.

Matt, the only non-stadia events are the X/Country, Half and Full Marathon and Road Walks.

Just been looking at registration costs etc.

www.lyon2015.com

It may be worth having a preliminary meeting, soon.

Hi Mike

I'm vaguely interested in entering for the half marathon. Although Lyon could be jolly warm in August for any long distance event! Anyway, perhaps you could pencil me in as a possible please. I would of course be happy to help with organizing the trip. Can't say I really understand the registration fees. Doh!

I met Dave and discussed a set of avenues to investigate and explore.
Travel. (Road, Mini Bus or Car) (flying from Luton or Stanstead) (Train Eurostar from London)
Accommodation. (Depending on Numbers)
Events. (Depending on the Individual)

I have currently spent some time on all these options and have the rough current costing's, all we need is a collective decision on how long each individual intends to/or requires to spend out in Lyon to compete and/or sightsee and their preferred travel and accommodation requirement. We can then hopefully put a plan together, to suit the majority's interest.
We have roughly 10 interested at present, therefore I suggest we have a brief meeting at the club on Thurs (8th) at 9pm. Where we can run through everybody's interests with all the costing's and options, to see if a club trip is viable.

Mel - thanks for doing the research. Will be there, although will probably be back too late for the club run. Anyone else interested, no problem if you cannot make it on Thursday evening - just that it makes it easier to discuss the detail and options if we meet up.

Thanks Mel and Dave.

Some of the detail on the website is not totally transparent and it will be useful do discover some of the extra costs involved in the visit. Hope to see you on Thursday.

One of us will try and come to the meeting tomorrow evening, we are both still very interested in a club trip to Lyon and are intending to compete in the 5000m track on 6/7 so would be wanting to travel out on 4 August and hopefully stay until the 16th to support all the brave souls doing the marathon Blink
