How much navigation / sense of direction is needed for these - assuming I would never be anywhere but near the back?

Hi Ali. They are all pretty well marked. I did 4 of them last year and it would be hard to get lost. It is always worth setting out intending to be self sufficient in all situations, so carrying waterproofs and something warm is sensible. Fell shoes are essential.

Thanks Simon,

Results are up for the Sugar loaf.

Both Gill and myself have really enjoyed the shorter fell runs this year and this has made a nice change from road running. The only thing I would add to anyone thinking of doing one is to respect the conditions you are likely to encounter(Brecon X/country) and come prepared for the worst the weather/ terrain can throw at you. It's not complicated but you do have to be self sufficient and a little mad to enjoy the fun.

Mike

Just to remind everyone that the next race is Skirrid on the 20th December. It starts at one of the oldest pubs in Wales - and might involve a hill.

if you are not aware, the WFRA has changed its safety policy for 2015.

Condensed version can be found here https://www.facebook.com/groups/162891360538812/

Basically,Competitors must have appropriate experience in the conditions that may be encountered so that they can manage their own safety.

The Race Organiser (RO) has a duty of care to competitors in their race. However, competitors must accept that race monitoring (marshals, checkpoint recording, search and rescue etc.) is not infallible and must not be considered a ‘safety net’.

A competitor enters a race on the understanding that they are responsible for their own safety. The competitor must obey all instructions from the RO and officials but must equip and conduct themselves as though they were unsupported for the duration of the race.

See you at the Skirrid BigGrin

Thanks Caroline but I do not have access to Facebook.

I fancy another fell race and would appreciate some advice about this one. I'll also have a look on The Skirrid website.

I ran the Llanthony Show in the warmth of summer but I've not run anything in the depths of midwinter, ice, fog .... I suspect that this will be another planet/comet.

Will I need Satnav? Tim O'S are you doing it?

Great Mike. I think Mary is coming along to spectate from the bar!

This all sounds alarming but is not. For short winter races a small rucksack or bum bag with a waterproof top, long sleeved top, hat and gloves. In really foul weather add waterproof trousers. If you twist an ankle you will be able to stay warm. The rules boil down to planning on being self sufficient in the event of mishap. Just plan for no markers, marshals, drinks or rescue. Anything you do get is a bonus!

Thanks Richard.

Ticked the boxes, but when mixing with the Dark Side, will I need a headtorch?

Well done to all those who crawled up and slid down Skirrid today. Katie, Caitlin, Ruth, Caroline, Gill, Mike, Roy, Simon, John, Nick and me makes 11. Perfect weather, great views but brutal inclines up and down. Katie first lady (as usual).

2 weeks to Kymin. Can't wait.

I can only apologise to Katie and Ruth, if I'd been faithful to the Croups we'd have had the team prize. Still congratulations to both of you on your individual prizes
