For those of you who remember things such as playschool, playaway, bay city rollers, wham, moods and rockers etc... you may wish to consider joining Welsh Master. Welsh masters have their own compitions imcluding the Track and Field league in the summe where we are going to keep hold of Norman the Gnown. There is also the opportunity to get selected for events such as the inter regional track and field at Souilhill or the 4 county cross country. As well being entitled to competed in any welsh or british masters race. Memebership for next year starts next month but will go up after January. Don't worry if you don't remeber those things you're always welcome to come and run as a guest at the track and field, it's good speed work trainig.

Thanks for 'heads up' Tracey.

Just had my reminder from Sue Hooper today and the renewal date for Welsh Masters' membership is the 1st January 2015, £13.50 which includes a levy to the BMAF ( + quarterly British Masters' Magazine).

The renewal membership fee increases to £16 after 1st March 2015. Details of Welsh Masters' fixtures including the Summer Track and Field Meetings are given on the Welsh Masters' website:-

www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk

Our ladies won the Welsh Masters' Track and Field Championship last year and our men finished second, losing out, only on the last fixture.

Can we make it a double success next season?

In fact there is a renewal of hostilities on the track (indoors) at NIAC (UWIC, Cyncoed) , early next year. Entry forms are on the Welsh Masters website.

11th Jan 200m/800m/LJ/TJ/shot
8th Feb 60m/400m/1500m/HJ/PV

1st March BMAF Inter Area Challenge, Lee Valley
8th March BMAF 10m Road Race Champ., Sidcup
14th March BMAF Cross Country Champ., Ruthin
23rd - 28th European Veterans Indoor Champ., Torun, Poland
26th July BMAF 10k Road Race Champ., Magor

More details to follow.

It is not really poor planning as both disciplines are governed by pre set dates catering for different athletes. The WMAA could never afford to book the Cardiff Metropolitan Indoor for its Championships as not enough Masters compete indoors, therefore to enable our members to compete, we use the Two Grand Prix events, using the event as guests. The dates for these two Grand Prix's have been set in the calendar for months.
The Gwent League are in a similar position, they have to use the cross country weekend dates set by UKA. The only way they could have avoided each other is if the host club of the Gwent League chose the Saturday not the Sunday, or perhaps the Grand Prix had chosen a Saturday originally. Even then they both could have chosen a Saturday and clashed.
The last Gwent League also clashes with the Inter-Area Indoor T&F on the First of March. Once again we have to honour a date set by our hosts at Lee Valley and the Gwent League have to not only use the set UKA weekend, but have to fall in with the day the club hosting the event chooses.
Unfortunately some clashes are unavoidable and it will never change, as the fixtures are so compact.

Thanks for clarifying this Mel. It didn't clash last year so more annoyed that I can't do both this year as I could previously.

Thanks Tracy and Mike for the reminder to renew membership of the WMAA.
Mike omitted two events on his excellent list of forthcoming events. One is the Old Father Time organised by Les Croups on the 28th December and the other is at Lyon, France on the 5th of August to the 16th. The Lyon event is the World Masters T&F Championships, significantly they also include a 10k, Half Marathon and Marathon. Uniquely to Masters Athletics, there are no standards for entry to compete in this competition, therefore it is probably the only sport where you can be lining up alongside and competing against world famous athletes. I am hoping to compete there on the track and there are also a few Les Croups members thinking of competing in various road events and a club trip over would be a great idea. The BMAF 10k Road Champs at Magor in July also look good for the club team.
On joining WMAA, you are entitled to compete in Lyon in the World Champs. you would then have to wear the "compulsory" British vest.
As Tracy explained, joining or paying before March 2015 is only £13.50 for the year. New Members joining in December this year would be covered for the Old Father Time race and for all of next year ! Why not join us !

Mel - definitely up for the Lyon event - would be fantastic if a big group of us went across for this. Will join Welsh Masters soon.

Thanks Mel and Dave. Lyon would be an interesting individual and group target for 2015.

I personally Intend to regenerate my track career next year Love and agree with Dave ( come and hit the track Dave !!) It would be brilliant to get a group trip to Lyon BigGrin

A quick reminder to members that the first of two Welsh Masters T&F Indoor Events at the Cyncoed track will be held on the Sunday, 11th January 2015.

The closing date for online entries was supposed to be today but they've extended the online entry until Monday, 5th January 2015.
It's £6/event but there is a reduction for 3 or more events (200m/800m/LJ/TJ/Shot).

I must admit to experiencing some difficulty with the online form. The first 'box' - Competition Licence is your Welsh Athletics Registration Number.
