The lastest edition of Runners World has an article on Brtain favourite running songs. The article states a study in the International Journel of Stretch and Conditional found that runners ran faster 5k times when listening to music before and during their runs. This was backed by a study in the International Journal of Sports Science where cyclists finished a 10k time trial faster when listening to music. While the Univeirsty of Sourthern Queensland found music could increase runners engery efficienty by up to 3% and lower percption of effect. So may be we should all start running with i-pods? But if this is the case then they should be bannd under the UKA rule where a runner may not use anything that may give then an unfair advantage over other runners. Either way I rather running magazines promote safe running and encourage it's readers to join a club or group where there is always encouragement. In case anyone is intrested Queens Don't stop me now was voted in as the no 1 running track. Freddy Merucary in his tight lrciya mmmm......

Well I do listen to music before a race & it works for me!

It's also been shown that taking a big red & white (innocuous) pill before a fitness test also improves performance. Hence the placebo effect.

I'll have to start marketing them as placebo pills, guaranteed completely harmless. Will improve athletic performance using the scientifically proven placebo effect.
Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast!
