I'm sure there's plenty going on, but sometimes it takes a lot of preparation to put a list together. For example, I doubt if we've yet considered a date for the Handicap 10 - ask John Griffin for details.
If it's any particular race you're looking for, try looking on the website of the promoting club. There is usually a Welsh fixtures congress in November, to try and put a calendar together for 2015.
Of course, some Race Directors are very proactive and have the information already on the website, so if it's Barry 40 you're interested in, it's 8th March and you can give me £25 on Thursday if you like!

I wonder how foolish it would seem if I thought that in a year or two I may be experienced enough to give Mick's pride and joy a bash.. One marathon down and this post puts silly thoughts like that in my head.

Sarah: slow runners + hard work + right attitude = faster runners.
The beauty of this sport is that it doesn't matter where you come from, you can improve just the same as anyone else. It's your personal journey and the satisfaction you can get from that is unlimited, to say nothing of the friends and travel possibilities along the way.
PS Joining the greatest club on the planet also helps! Good call!

Sarah, the handicap 10 is held on a Sunday morning, followed by our annual AGM. After the race we have breakfast at Llandaf rugby club, then launch into the AGM, which includes awards for the club's championships (short course, long course, off road). In 2014 this was held on Sunday 2 February. I don't think we've set an AGM date for 2015 yet though.

Marcus, i recommend lap counting at the Barry 40 a year before entering it. I did it the wrong way round so to make amends this March i will be counting for Dave Headon. He has promised me he intends to do the whole thing - not getting hypothermia or sunburnt (!) if the upfront intention is not to finish!

Lap Counting is definitely the way forward. I fully expect to be there counting for (and hopefully keeping the spirits up of) James Zarei.

Mick I agree with you. It also makes a good talking point at Job Interviews. Why 8 London marathorns? Why not. I'll do 10k on the track agin but the Barry 40, maybe maybe not. After 3 Snowdoin marathorns anything could be possible bit I reaky do need to work on speed. Sarah you will soon know about the handicape 10 as Geoff will be chassing us all up!

Does anyone know if Lliswerry 8 will be in the 2015 champs?

Entries now open (25th Jan). The race limit was reached last year..

Other essential criteria; (i) its flat, (ii) they do cake (lots)

We've not met yet to discuss which races will be in the club's championships - however LLiswerry 8 is a popular one, and accurately measured too, so I would bet money on it being included again. It also sells out so bag your place whilst you can.

Forest of Dean spring half marathon is always popular so there's very good chance it will be included in the off road champs again.

Looking back at last year's diary, we decided on the races for 2014 on 12 December 2013. We have to wait until the race dates are announced, though a few events might be TBC, and some of the fell races subsequently added later in the year.

If you have taken part in a race and want to suggest it for inclusion, please let us know. Road races have to be accurately measured and properly timed. Races should be within reasonable travel distance of Cardiff, and within Wales, with appropriate opportunity for club members to enter them. New suggestions can be included alongside the firm favourites, but the numbers of races have to be balanced out.

Jeff has made a suggestion of a 'best mile time' rather than separate mile races within the short course champs.

I think the mile races should be kept seperate, a race is different to a time trial, and it's good to have a few proper short short course races in there

We do it's called the short course champs. What about the Cardiff bay 5 now that it has proper organisation. I know it might be not be possible but any chance of haviing the castle 10 trail the week before or after the cardiff bay? It get quite crazy that week with races. Like waiting for a bus ( or a bloke) wait ages for one then 10 turn up at the same time!

I'd like to suggest the Bog and Bryn race for the Offroad champs next year, did it today and its a great run (but very tough!). Only 20mins drive away and all you can eat cake afterwards!
