The alternative course does indeed sound a better option.

Thanks for your suggestion James. What is the alternative route? I have no knowledge of it. Consequently I thought I'd go down to the park tonight at about 6:30 to see what time they actually close/lock the gates. We may be able to get in but getting out may be more problematic. Blackweir style may be the only exit.

I think James means the course that Phil used for the 1 mile race during the summer. I do remember Run and Become doing mile relays in Llandaff fields several years ago so it may be a possibilty to do them there too, but I am not sure of the exact course.

The ambulance station gates are never looked. That's how I got out last year, easier then trying to get a bike over a stile or locked gates. Another options is to meet earlier if work commitments allow.

I think the track would be perfect for this, would be brilliant if this could be organised.

Great idea Alun, you would not have to worry about the light then. But you would have to make sure that no one else was using the track at that time as we can not stop others using it just because we want to.

I have never done one of these 1 mile races yet, so hopefully I will make this one if I can.

Thanks for the constructive comments.
I checked the usual start for the 1 mile TT last Friday and confirmed that the gates at the Ambulance Station were locked, certainly before 6:45pm. Yes you can jump over the wall (5' ) or squeeze through a gap in the railings near the main entrance to the station but you may be putting your 'welfare' at risk. Both would be difficult with a bike on your back. In addition, yes, we could adjust the start/ finish lines and the park is gloriously quiet but my concern would be access for any emergency vehicles.
The use of the track is a nice idea for next year perhaps but there is the issue of an entry cost at the stadium, .... which I'm sure that some wouldn't mind paying.
I also had a look at the Cafe Castan (Chestnut Cafe) Route at the Cathedral Road edge of the park. This has been used by Phil and others in the past and retains the park element of the existing 1 mile TT. It would start near the gates opposite the club and head towards the car park taking the first left and continuing towards the car park, through the narrow gate and returning through the trees to the finish (next to the start). Friday night was a glorious evening and the park was busy, the light was good until after 7:30 but the course would not be as quick as the usual route.
If you are still interested then I'd like to start the first runner as close to 6:45pm as possible. Any offers from members to help officiate/ marshal then please let me know.

The TT will start opposite the club (not the stables)- the park entrance to the right of WJEC.

Mike, i am planning to run as long as I get home from work OK. If possible could my kids give it a bash as well. They are 8 and 11 and have started to run parkrun regularly. They aren't as quick as James's son but will get through it ok!

Actually Mike, if the kids can run then I will marshal instead if you like. With Snowdonia on the horizon Friday is a designated rest day for me anyway.
