Beat me to it James. However, a word of advice. My current 5k PB is 19:54. However I more often run 20:10 - 20:40 or there about.

The website indicates that anyone who "can" run under 20 is required to enter the "Elite" race. In no way, shape or form am I an elite runner. What race should I enter? If anyone here is also running Nos Galan, what race are you entering, assuming you are around the 20 minute mark that is!

I am not sure I will enjoy being lapped by the first runners!

Marcus,

I agree with James. Your 5k time is easily good enough for the elite race. You'll also get a much better time than if you entered the fun run as you won't get held up so much at the start. I almost considered it myself but as I'm a few minutes slower I was worried that the fun runners would start lining up and block the route before I'd got round my final lap! I'm doing it for the atmosphere of running with the masses rather than achieving a good time. Even though it's chip timed it actually only records your gun time as there's normally no mat at the beginning so any time spent reaching the start line is part of the race (just like parkrun).

I will, however, be expecting you and James to stay around to cheer us all on in the fun run, even if it pours down again this year! (I'm only joking, by the way, in case you both need to get the kids home!)

James,
I (reluctantly) accept your advice.. Elite race it is. Looking at the times anything up to 23 minutes will do it for that race.

Paul,
I think you should enter the Elite as well give that you did your fastest 10 and 5k's for the year.. Also, I will happily stay to cheer you on. It was a great evening last year!

Nick,
I should be so lucky!

Cheers for the input chaps.

Always enter the Nos Galan elite race if you can. The other one is an over crowded fun run. Great occasion for the town though, jovial atmosphere and festive laughs for NYE.

I agree with everyone else. Never get put off by labels. Often a good a idea to look at the previous year's results before making a decision.

My PB is 20.50 and usually more like 21.30. Last year Claire let me have her place - which was in the elite race, I was neither lapped nor last. I was feeling pretty rubbish too.
