While you were all running around Roath Park or in the Brecon Mo Farrow completed the Great North in 1 hour a new word record. It seems like his hard work and determination is starting to pay off. Personnal I wouldn't recommend the Great North as it has gone really expensive, London is cheaper! It is too crowded for a PB, there are less crowded and better ones. It sounds like the new 10k course went really well and I'm sorry I missed it (family wedding) but I shall be there next year. Well done every who completed at Cardiff and Brecon.

I'm afraid it wasn't a world record Tracey, the record is 58mins and Mo was 60mins!

Tracey I love your enthusiasm! But as Oli says, it wasn't even close!
Zerisonay Tadesse holds the record, 58:23 at Lisbon 2010.
The course record at GNR is 58:56, so Mo was way off that too.
Added to which, Great North Run has a net drop in elevation of greater than the allowable limit (1 metre / km) and the start and finish are too far apart for the course to qualify for record purposes (otherwise a tailwind could potentially push runners to a record).
But a win is a win. I'll reserve judgment on his conduct till I see the video.
Perhaps we should invite Mo to Cardiff so that his time would be legitimate and you could tell him what you think.

Sorry I must of misheard. I didn't realise the course was outside the limit. There was a similar argument at the San Francisco half when a world record was set but was disallowed as it was all down hill. They have or did half a good tri there call Escape from Altranze. It would be good if Mo came to Cardiff, and may the club and park run.

Just checked Mo boke the men course record and Paula course record was broken by a Russian. She thought they might round up the time but it was rounded down. Well records are made to be broken and Paula has set some pretty tough records.

Tracey you really need to find a new source for your facts!

Mo's time was nowhere near the Great North Run course record which was set by Martin Mathathi from Kenya in 2011 (58:56). Previous winners have run under the hour on numerous occasions.

It was indeed a women's course record by 1 second but Mary Keitany is from Kenya not Russia.

Also his name is Mo Farah not Mo Farrow Smile

Mo Farah set a British record, being the first British man across the line the actual course record for men is still unbroken. The Great North will never see a world or British record because it does not comply with British Athletics rules with regards to the incline and the finish ( see Mick post for further details) I'm apologize for the confusion. You can all kill me on Thursday! I apologize again. Lets invite Mo to Cardiff and see if he can break a few records.
