I wish I had your modesty! You are going to smash 40 no problem! If your not already past me I will be looking over my shoulder near the finish!ThumpUp

I don't think the course will be as fast as previous years, but I agree with Mick that I don't think it will be that slow to post some good times on it though. My tactics is that I am going to blast it a bit from when I just get over the incline going in to Cathays to the beginning of Ninian Road. Steady back a little until I get past the incline at Fairoak Road and then go for a faster final blast back to the finish. As for times, I will be looking to do sub 40 mins hopefully.

Conditions look set to be ideal! It looks like the wind speed is likely to be 1 to 3 mph! Could make up for that hill. BigGrin

My prediction was wildly out. Actual result DNF, pulled out after a measly 1k with a calf injury Cursing . This is only the second time I've had to stop running due to injury so I can't complain really though.
Hope the rest of you had good races BigGrin
P.S. Enyoyed the Ska music at the start. Ruuuudee, a message to you Ruuuuudee.

Congratulations to Graham Finlayson and everyone involved in the organisation. That was my 17th Cardiff 10km and I hope the race sticks with the new course. Why? Wide roads throughout and a distinct absence of ninety degree bends which have been Graham's hallmark in the past. Yes there were a few undulations, I think that helped, otherwise the same muscles are being employed. And there were a lot of PBs too - well done to everyone who achieved a lifetime best today.
PS The kilometre markers were all in the right places - thank you!

Some very impressive times and pb's posted today by our club runners, I know Lyndon did a pb as I think he told me his previous best was around low 38 mins and now he has just done sub 37, excellent stuff there. I could not believe I took 13 seconds off my pb too. I knew respectable times could be achieved on this course but not quite pb's so I was well pleased, this should be a very good sign for the Cardiff Half Marathon, I am looking at a pb on that now. Also I agree, we should keep this course on for next year and beyond, it certainly gets my vote.

totally agree a much better course well done on the 10k..really well done..

I had a PB too..11 seconds I think.. its much better than the other course no horrid 90 deg bends and much more interesting.. wide roads..

Well done Andrew Blaire on PB I could not stick with you after 3k.. i fell away :-( , Alun Davies 4 mins quicker than 2013! (but still 11 seconds behind me,. where was that sprint.. next time i'm sure !) , Nemma Mal on a PB, Nick on a PB, well done Lyndon..too.. you looked strong when you passed me..

My son ran the 2k, and wanted to have a measured course.. shame that the course was not organised for that one.. (and I also ran) and dont agree that the runners when wrong - or as best as i can see they did not ..there was no directions as to the route.. .. my son was upset when he heard the announcer say the runners when wrong.. thats not really appropriate..(well i felt anyway).. I know its only a 2k and they dont get results but he wanted to know his time on a set course etc.

If this helps Caerphilly 10k now has a children race and so does Swansea 10k if it's not too late to enter. Lets hope they get it right next year it's good to see children running but not good if the organisers don't get it right. Let's hope it's better next year, although they don't normally get wrong.

Thought the course was a good and the crowds were brilliant.

Excellent sprint finish between Lyndon and Nick Tulp just in front of me- both came flying past in last few hundred metres i see they were given identical times- both PBs

Delighted with my PB I'm sure helped by the finish in frontBigGrin

I was determined to run well yesterday to grab something positive after a rotten couple of weeks I have had.

I thought my only chance was to be disciplined and use the advice that has been given to me over the years!OhMyGod

I mainly had Mick Mgeoch's voice in my head all the way around (aka the Yoda of running). Here's a simulation.

"Its like filling a bath with water you need to gradually turn the water up as you go so by the end the bath is full and the tap has been turned fully on"

"Let them go! they are wrong and you are right"

"Use the people on the course tuck in, and move to the next as they slow down"

"On the hills effort not pace"

"Relax"

"Stay close then kick at the end"

The force was definitely with me! I think finally everything he has been telling me is starting to click!

I think it would be wrong for me not to give a lot of credit to Mick for helping me have a great run yesterday! Perhaps he should look into coaching.ThumpUp
