Alan was a really good man a great club member, and a good friend to many of us in the club. He always made me laugh with his comments about
stories in the papers, and I'll miss not seeing him in 'Crinkly Corner'. Alan's history with the club was a proud and honourable one, he'll be
greatly missed.

I posted this sad news on the Cardiff parkrun Facebook page. Alan was well known - and appreciated - by hundreds of parkrunners, and there are lots of comments being left in memory of him.

Oh this is dreadfully sad new.I was really hoping that he would pull through.I have so many memories of Alan going back over the years.He was such a likeable character.My memories of him go back to the 80's when we were running all the races together.I loved chatting with him at the club every week and at the Parkruns.It was only last week that i found a photograph of alan and myself when we went to Brugges.This is really upsetting.R.I.P alan I will greatly miss you.

I’m saddened to hear of Alan’s passing and send my condolences to family.
I had known Alan since I joined the club in 1992, and he was a good friend.
Alan was a devoted servant to the club having contributed in so many different ways.
Alan was indeed a stalwart and will certainly be missed.

Very sad news. Alan was a great parkrun marshall by the bridge by Western Avenue. He also was there giving support at a lot of races. RIP. Red and green vests for Saturday's parkrun?

I don't have a deep history with Alan like the rest of you clearly do, however I do know that he was very kind to my 10 year old daughter when she did her first parkrun and she was clearly nervous. He had a nice chat with her about running and its benefits! I think Matt's idea of the club vest at parkrun this saturday and a good turnout of club members would be a fitting tribute to a man who has obbviously positively impacted many many people. I shall be there in the red and green. Marcus

Hi All As a tribute to Alan Bladen could we please have as many members as possible taking part in this Saturday's Cardiff parkrun, could I also ask that you wear your Red and Green Club vest {PLEASE DO NOT WEAR THE BALCK & RED VEST}? We have done this on a few previous occasions and had a very good response. Alan was not only a great Club Man and supported of Les Croups, but he was also a big supporter of parkrun and had volunteered on 201 occasions. I appreciate that many of you will be competing in the Caerphilly 10k the following day, but if you could come along and just have a nice easy jog around that would be very much appreciated. I am so sad to hear the news of Alan's passing.
I am also shocked, as I believed,(along with others it would appear), that he was on the mend.
He was one of the stalwarts, - a Croupiers club man through and through.
But besides that he was a true gentleman, very knowledgeable, and always willing to give help and friendly advice.
Along with many others I will miss him very much.
My sympathies to all his family. R.I.P.

Very, very sad news. Only last year he won the Welsh Champs 10k Men V75; 1st Alan Bladen (Les Croups) 72:26. Always willing to help marshal, and a raconteur with a Victor Meldrew twist, a sense of humour that he appreciated! I shall miss his stories from 'crinkly corner'. My deep condolences to his family. Very sad to hear this news.
I only knew Alan in his later years, and our first big conversation was in a cross challenge XC quite a few years ago. I went the wrong way at the point in which Alan was marshaling, and ended up in the middle of a different age group race. In truth I was stuck in the middle of this race and he wouldn't have seen me. When I went up to him after he (quite rightly) said "Well, you should know the course shouldn't you?" I liked him a lot ever since incident! Didn't mince his words and was open and honest, without ever offending. A great character trait.
A top bloke who will be sadly missed by many.

Really sorry to hear about Alan's death. He was generous with his time and wonderful company, with a vast supply of anecdotes about the club (and life in general) usually expressed with a very pithy and amusing turn of phrase. An illustration of how widely-known and well-liked Alan was is the fact that, in 3 different overses marathons (from memory, Amsterdam, Chicago and Berlin), I have been approached by other runners asking: 'Are you from Les Croupiers, do you know Alan Bladen?'. I'm very proud to have known you Alan.
Rest in peace and may the sun continue to shine on you.

A great character, he was direct and to the point and was greatly appreciated for this and his 'always there' presence at parkrun. I'm planning to do a parkrun in London on Saturday, will be with you in spirit!

Very sad news, I remember the 1st time I marshalled on park run Standing at black weir with Alan he pulled out a little piece of paper with his marathon times on, something to inspire me. I,m sorry I won't be able to make it to park run tomorrow as I'm away but will go out with my club vest on for a run in the am.

It is hard to put into words what people like Alan are to the club who give there time to runners and are always the first people to volunteer to help at races. Alan always had story's to tell you but when Alan was at his peak he would win vets(masters) prizes all the time. He will be sadly missed by all. God bless Alan and to his family.
With regrets I can not make it to the park run but will be thinking of him.

I was very sorry to hear this sad news. Alan was such a significant figure both in the club and, in more recent years, at parkrun. Aways a gentleman, yet direct and straight talking. My thoughts are with his family and close friends. Sorry I can't make parkrun this morning, I will be thinking of you all x.

We have just returned from holiday to hear this sad news. Alan was one of the first Croups Paul and myself met when joining the club back in 1988. He was a legend and a Croups member through and through. He always seemed to be around helping and supporting local running events. And he posted some seriously good marathon times. He had a wicked sense of humour. He will be sadly missed. Our thoughts are with his family. A top Crinkly.
