Ladies and gents,
Checking the start list for the Caerphilly 10k there is a healthy turn out of 52 LCRC members entered. I figure this is potentially a lot of cars travelling over the mountain.

In the spirit of environmental protection would anyone like a lift to the race?

lol, I actually looked at that.. and then realised I can barely run as it is.. I would be in no fit state after that hill climb!

Hi Paul, I've sent you a text. For anyone else they are closing some road so I thought it may pay to be there a bit early.

I was thinking of being at the club at 8 for an 8.15 depart. Race starts at 10.

Anyone else welcome to hop in the car for a lift over the mountain.

Gutted I missed this one! It only scored 69% on runners world for PB potential so I cant see it being that quick mind.

I reckon best local 10K for a PB has got to be Swansea Bay 10K.

I agree with Alan, its a great price. To be fair there is not much they can do about the weather. Its the second running of the event, its not like Cardiff is always perfect, one year they missed the water stop. So a balance to be had.

What is important is that we feedback what worked well, and the areas to improve. We should be fair to our local events and support them. (and add a positive slant (as appropriate) on RW reviews too)..
E.G. Water bottles brilliant - much better than cups and in the heat it made a difference to me. I would have really struggled with cups !! Mind you in that heat I would have taken a second water stop too... I noticed all the top runners on Steve Patersons all took water. lots of bannaas and water at finish too.. well done..

Course yes it was undulating but it had only one 180 turn, and lots of long straight runs where you could get into a routine of working hard. None of the hills were brutal - you never quite get back what a hill takes away but this course was fair in that manner, and the hill at the end.

Ok, the silly warmup - really whats the point.. but so do quite a few races.. let it lie organisers.. and the start was to narrow for many back in the field (so I heard - it didn't impact me ) no issues.. but I can understand if others had a slower start. Nice bag, and stuff. if you wanted a t shirt its 8 quid not bad value.. and not 30+ odd miles up the M4 either, if your really keen you could run home. I ran the course again as a warm down.

Did anyone know who was sponge bob running 40:08 or so runner number 2104 I think, running in full costume(or almost so) fair play in that heat and fancy dress.. well done,..

I really enjoyed the race. No course will match up to off road races for me in terms of enjoyment but this seemed no better or worse than the few other road races I have done within my limited experience.

The weather was beyond anyones control but I think there was plenty of water around to help. A second water stop? Perhaps, but it was ok.

Toilets and baggage worked like a charm as far as I am aware and the atmosphere was great.

The warm up is for the benefit of the fun runners and has a place at these events as far as I am concerned in just raising the fun factor for people who don't run regularly.

Overall, I intend to come back next year.

I've done this race twice now and will probably be back next year. It's not a PB course but a good challenging 10k. It's well organized but I would rather have a t-shit that a bag! Maybe I'll buy one next year. I just ignore the warm-ups now, they get on my nerves. In case anyone is wondering Oliver Cornwell blew the castle up, apparently he was using it as target practise. At least that was what my history teacher said.

Perhaps Oliver Cornwell didn't like the warm up and wanted a T Shirt instead of a bag.

The guy in the sponge bob outfit could have been Oliver Cornwall, but I think you are referring to the Pie-Man, this was Matt Gurmin. Pie-Man also won the mascots race.
