Unfortunately, the St Arvan's MT 10, Tintern has been cancelled for this year but Chepstow Harriers will be replacing it with the East Wentwood Woodlark, Wentwood Wood, Newport..something of a tongue twister .... just waiting for the announcements on a Thursday night.
No date has been given for this race but I would imagine it being held in September.

In addition, the two Fell Races for the Off Road Championship are:

The Llanthony Show Fell Race ( 3.5 miles/1100 ft), 2nd August .... a great day out according to Simon Hazel.
 and
The Sugar Loaf Fell Race (Shorter), Abergavenny, October(tbc).

Both races have been confirmed, by our Fell Running fraternity, as suitable races for our uninitiated members.

Mike, Simon, would these two be suitable for a complete rookie to off road and a relative rookie to racing in general? |

These races are really what you want to make of them (like any other), Marcus.
If you like hills, then they are for you and ......navigation skills .....should not be needed. The Tintern race will be a good indicator of things to come.

Pentyrch Fell ( about 6-7 country miles) is coming up and is in the Off Road Championship. It's quite demanding but could give you an insight into the demands of such races. I'm sure your enthusiasm will get you through Marcus and the view from the top can be quite stunning.

I have been looking how to enter Pentyrch. I believe it is on the day only isn't it? If that proves to be the case and if navigations is not needed (is it?) then I think I will give this one a try. I have already booked a half day from work for it as otherwise I wouldn't make it on time! Cheers Marcus. **EDIT** I have just seen the following on the Welsh Fell Runners website about Pentyrch: Venue: From Pentyrch Rugby Club, CF15 9QJ. (GR 100816)No safety pins ; changing and shower facilities; bar snacks What does "no safety pins" mean.. they don't provide them or they are not allowed? Edited by user 06 April 2014 18:43:51(UTC)

                Well done Marcus.
A cracking local race. There may be a water station but then there might not. Hope to see you there.

Navigation skills will not be needed.

I assume that "No safety pins" means that you have to supply your own. I can't think of any other way to attach race numbers, so I wouldn't have thought that they were banned. |

OMG! St. Arvans MT10 cancelled! One of the best races in the year! (One we do well at). Wentwood Woodlark on the 7th Sept conflicts with Cardiff 10k, a long course championship race, so will it be in the Off Road champs or not? The Sugar Loaf is Oct. 26th & is 8km/444m according to San Dom. |

Hi Mike, I've just tidied up the website champs races, (some dates have changed), but there is still a conflict between the Cardiff 10k & Wentwood Woodlark. If you go to the Chepstow website they say the S. Arvans MT10 will be a new course for 2014, so is it still on? I see is struck through on our list. What distance is the Wentwood Woodlark? I cannot find any info. |
