I'd forgotten about that one. I was actually disapointed as I wanted to get under 53 minutes.
Frustratingly I only managed it once officially, in the handicap 10. I did the Rhondda 10
in 51.50 ish once, but somebody set off the starting cannon accidentally, so there were no official times,
and ran an 11 mile (ish) Castle's leg at 51/52 minute pace the year Mick had an epic battle with Bernie Plain.
Some of the other races of that time were the Reading 10, a favourite, as I beat the hour
for the 1st time, the Vale of Neath 10 (aka the Vale of Death), which was my first 10,
the Bedwas Mountain race and the Machen Mountain race.
The Vale of Neath, Bedwas and Machen races were very old fashioned. The VON and Machen
races being run from the local rugby clubs, with free bangers and mash after the race, and Bedwas
run from the Bridge End pub, with free food and beer after the finish.
I went on a pub crawl with Woody and Boffo after the Bedwas race. We started at the Bridge End,
then the Fisherman's around the corner, the Travellers, and Black Cock, ending up in St Joseph's,
where I had to stop - no stamina, unlike Woody and Boffo (both ex St Joseph's rugby props).
