Details of the club championships for 2019 are now available on our website - click here

We will update the list with confirmed race dates, once known.

Some of the races do fill up quickly, so keep a sharp eye on the relevant websites for the opening dates.

The first race on the championships for 2019 is the Riverbank Rollick (13 January). This is a popular race so do watch them carefully for news of entries opening (in November).

Sure this has been asked a few times before - but why isn't "Any 10k" a consideration for long course champs? Much more likely to be used than 20 miles. And there's no half marathons on the list of possible races even though Cardiff Half is probably the best attended local race. Five 10ks, four 10 milers and no listed half marathons. Just curious!

Hi Doug, the half marathon distance is included in the long course champs, as part of the choose one or more of 3 , marathon,20mile, or half marathon. So you can choose whichever half you want and it will count towards championship race points

That's not really what I meant - I can see any half is on the list. As I mention in my post, there are 5 10ks on the prescribed list of races for the long course but not "any 10k". There are no prescribed half marathon races. What I was getting at was would it improve the balance of the championships to have Cardiff half AND "any half marathon" in the championships, and maybe have fewer listed 10ks with "any 10k" as an option?

Hi Doug

The club used to have specific half marathon races on the list but switched over to 'best road half' to give runners more chance of running their best time at a race that suited their training, time of year, fitness etc.

You could say the same applies to 10k distance, but when we analysed past attendance figures we found that attendance at the 10ks was good, runners' feedback was positive and it was more likely that runners could have a season's best at one of those races. More so than the half marathon distance.

Many members do want the marathon and 20 mile distance included, some are real 'long' distance addicts! So the mix of races should ensure that it's possible to compete for the widest number of runners and it's not always the fastest runners who score highest.

I'm not sure what support there would be for the Cardiff Half as a prescribed race again because that would exclude our club members who act as race officials and marshals.

This all said, if you'd like to put your suggestion forward next year, then it will be looked at because we're always up for considering new ideas. This year we met earlier than we've done previously, it was on 27 September, so best time to put your thoughts forward again will be early September next year.

Thanks Amanda, appreciate the efforts of the committee in putting all this together - hadn't considered the hardworking marshalls at Cardiff half. Bet that's a lot of croups!

I'll be doing a marathon and a 20 mile race next year so I should get enough races in 😊

Hi, just to verify - the Cardiff Bay 10k quoted is the one on March 31st? The site says May 31st so just paranoid.

HI Ceri, yes the Cardiff Bay 10K is on 31 March. That's the one in the championships. Hope you sign up for it, it's a good race and we've had warm sunny weather in the past. (Probably pour with rain now I've said that!)
