Good luck Andy. It seems you'll be more lucky with the weather than I was in 2016! I'm still cooling down!Have a great trip and enjoy the Boston marathon experience.

I have to say I love that Japanese tradition of wearing masks if you have a cold! Makes perfect sense and as a runner with a big race looming it must be a godsend!
Think you would get some strange looks if you did that here which is sad really.

Good luck Andy I am sure you will nail them all!

Just been checking the Boston results. It's certainly been a dramatic couple of days in the world of marathon running. Our guys ran:1537 Emyr Morgan 2:58:30
 3488 Andy Blair 3:10:46
At first sight disappointing. However, factor in the slowest winning time, 2:15:58 since 1976.
The winner was 90 seconds down at 35km, and won by over 2 minutes.
It might have felt exactly like Handicap 10, but for 26.2 miles.
So well done, Emyr and Andy, you survived!

"Brutal conditions" to quote the Washington Post - 38 degree F temperature drop, coldest in 30 years, plus rain and wind.. ((climate change assisted?)) Total, maximum, respect Emyr and Andy |

A tough ask in those conditions....

Looking forward to seeing you on your return.

Brutal is the best word to describe it, back home safe now

It was a very difficult day, trying to keep warm before, decide how many layers what to shed at what time, temp at village on arrival was 2 deg with a row of some wet snow around the tent we huddled into.

Its a tough course also but it was the cold that got me, it was the handicap 10 conditions for a marathon.

I was hanging on just to finish in end.

I'm sorry the sub 3 dream has gone but I always thought it was a tough ask.

 Thanks for all your support

Looking forwards to some warmer weather in london

Glad you’re home safe, Andy (and Emyr?).
 London?

Your reply seems to suggest that an element of the challenge may still be alive?

Don’t forget, you’ll have reinforcements (Les Crouipiers RC) this weekend. Hope to see you soon.

 Well done both.

I should have said in my post 2 58 from Emyr was an impressive run given the conditions

I think my main aim at the moment is to finish London (the bottom line is I have to complete them all the times were an added challenge) - record high temp. predicted - its not going to be an easy w/e, although waiting in the athletes village at the start should be more pleasant.

Well done Andy, sounded horrendous though looks like London will be just as hard at the other extreme. Perhaps you can look at it as a cumulative total so can claw back the minutes elsewhere... |

Well done Andy and Emyr. Hope you're recovering well Andy. The weather gods are being very unkind to you - from the cold of Boston to the heat in London! Good luck anyways and enjoy the atmosphere.I would consider Boston as being the toughest one I've run to date (probably barring Snowdonia. Like you, the weather made it tough). That might change this weekend though!

A tough week 'at the office' Andy. Survival was the name of the game and glad to see you in good spirits on Sunday evening.
I'm sure the beers with friends and a chance to share philosophies helped.

Half way reached and some respite before the charge for the autumn majors.

The second half is just around the corner, Andy.
I know that your preparation has been thorough and your training pals have been trying to stay with your pace.

Good luck on Sunday, 16th September in Berlin.
