Well run Sunday Julie - you had a great race (in spite of the after effects of Three Wise Men/Women flu :@)
Your right of course. For some events its all part of (eg M.Mawr Christmas pud) - not dawdling at the back as I always do, going off eyeballs out in order to be positioned come the bottleneck, provided there is the space to overtake..
This wasn't the case Sunday though, at least at the middle/back-end. The narrowish track that formed the start, along with much of the subsequent mile or so that led to the gates was chocca with a tail going back furlongs and made passing impossible for much of the initial route. Some should have started further up the field maybe, but not everyone can, or should (eg those carrying rucksacks and dressed for the Zombie Apocalypse - go easy on the Bear Grylls guys..). "Less-fast" runners are also as competitive and entitled to run rather than stand and freeze in a field
The pace and initial enforced rest-stops suited me fine - perfect opportunity to do much needed stretching and chat to those nice friendly well dressed (aka fancy dressed) marshals, who explained the prob with the course change.. Pity they weren't armed with cattle prods to deter the odd MAMIL trying to barge their way through, but ho humm. And some top banter - especially the GF telling her partner to STOP HOLDING MY HAND as they attempted to remain upright in the slurry (..she was wearing the mudclaws)
In short, perfect for my tastes, especially the cake. But with race entries soon sold out, new (and old) members unable to enter, other issues as listed - plus trench-foot setting in at the back - I'd make this a social event and look at alternatives in terms of club champs races.
.. if there are any.
Fell??
PS Julie Broughton missing from the results!
