I'm still queing for the stile in the second field! Fun race, especially the last couple of miles through the forest and Billy hits, the conditions also not too bad underfoot, but made the mistake of going off at the back (out of respect for my hip) getting well and truly stuck in the queues as a consequence. Far too many starters IMO for this amended course which had to be re-routed because a farmer refused accessed. Pity..

With you on this Tim...yes, I'm thankful that the race wasn't cancelled .. but it's not much of a race when time is spent queuing. (I know I'm slow, but) it took me 24:30 to cover the first 1.5 miles - which were flat!

So do club members feel that this race should not be on the off road championships for 2019?

Loads of the off road races involve queuing at gates/narrow sections stiles.some are worse than others eg riverbank rollick, and black mountain race, but its the nature of the beast!

Well run Sunday Julie - you had a great race (in spite of the after effects of Three Wise Men/Women flu :@)

Your right of course. For some events its all part of (eg M.Mawr Christmas pud) - not dawdling at the back as I always do, going off eyeballs out in order to be positioned come the bottleneck, provided there is the space to overtake..

This wasn't the case Sunday though, at least at the middle/back-end. The narrowish track that formed the start, along with much of the subsequent mile or so that led to the gates was chocca with a tail going back furlongs and made passing impossible for much of the initial route. Some should have started further up the field maybe, but not everyone can, or should (eg those carrying rucksacks and dressed for the Zombie Apocalypse - go easy on the Bear Grylls guys..). "Less-fast" runners are also as competitive and entitled to run rather than stand and freeze in a field

The pace and initial enforced rest-stops suited me fine - perfect opportunity to do much needed stretching and chat to those nice friendly well dressed (aka fancy dressed) marshals, who explained the prob with the course change.. Pity they weren't armed with cattle prods to deter the odd MAMIL trying to barge their way through, but ho humm. And some top banter - especially the GF telling her partner to STOP HOLDING MY HAND as they attempted to remain upright in the slurry (..she was wearing the mudclaws)

In short, perfect for my tastes, especially the cake. But with race entries soon sold out, new (and old) members unable to enter, other issues as listed - plus trench-foot setting in at the back - I'd make this a social event and look at alternatives in terms of club champs races.

.. if there are any.

Fell??

PS Julie Broughton missing from the results!

Fair comment Tim. Maybe the championship races should only include those that have minimal congestion, or have very open starts so fields are spread out before obstructions occur. The magic roundabout is great for this, also pentyrch (now the gate 300 yds from start has gone!)

It may be that the alternative course was a one-off - the queuing for stiles has never been an issue in the past (least not the years I've run it, 2016, 2017) .. for me the more important consideration regarding whether this should be a club champs race is the difficulty in entering - sold out so quickly - but - this seems to be par for the course of late .. question is, what to replace it with. Otherwise it's a well organised, scenic and enjoyable race with a great vibe.

Mumbai calling.

Detailed feedback for the sub committee.

A mid year review of the Long/Off Road Championships may be needed in June by the sub committee?
Short Course review in September?

Many of the issues are prominent throughout our club championships.

Yep, I had to queue before the dune in Pembrey Country Park( Centre of the Universe). Solved all the world’s problems by the time I got the top. No problems with entry though.

Popular races are popular.

There is a balance of races in each of the championships, from which most of the experienced members can be selective. I agree that it is becoming increasingly difficult to sustain this sumptuous menu (just a little spice - occasionally) but I’m sure that our sub committee will continue to be creative.

Have I mentioned .... don’t get left behind?
Keep up Mike. Tim and Grae are getting away.
