Not sure if everyone is aware but I think you need to pre-register for this on the Bridgend AC website and take your entry confirmation with you on the night

I don't think you have to pre-enter. This race incorporates the annual mob match Bridgend and Brackla versus Les Croupiers. What we do want is as many runners as possible to take part.
It's 3 years since we won the Ceremonial Mop and its always a great little event.
However, what I would encourage everyone to do is if possible complete a form prior to the evening and have the right money to enter on the night. Getting there early is important as you have to run approx. a mile to the start. NB It's a very narrow course. Don't worry about racing it, just turn up and run.

I think they prefer people to pre-register to speed up registrations on the night. I vaguely remember a few years ago when they introduced the parkrun-style barcode result system there was a delay getting people registered on the night as all the details had to be entered manually, so I think they introduced the pre-reg the following year as a way to avoid a repeat of that. Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong!

Gentle reminder for members. As detailed above - you enter on line but pay on the night (£6 - useful to take exact money). Over 500 have now entered so suggest you get there early - after registering you have to run a mile to the start (7.30PM). Hope to see as many of you there as possible.

Guess who's got a last minute entry?!!!!!
Yeee haaa!
The only down side is that I have to try and keep up with David M!

Now if anyone still has not entered then get your fingers on those keys and get registered on their website!
You will only be sat around doing nothing and TV is boring!

Come along and support your club and get a few more miles in. :)

Yeah baby...the Croops crew are coming through!

Just recovered from illness and can feel my strength coming back more everyday.

Early night for me it is all about being fit for the Castles now!

I won't be the fittest runner there but perhaps I can be the freshest.

I might have a go at the Summer series 3 miler after the Castles. Hopefully get another Pb and should set me up nice for my next 5km. BigGrin

I just went on webpage to enter Merthyr Mawr 5k and it is saying ENTRIES CLOSED.
Do I take it that if they won't accept an entry on line they won'y let you enter if you just turn up tonight?

Thanks to everyone who ran. There were 487 finishers - easily the most ever.
Prize winners for Croups:
Ralph Davey - first M70
Elio Lepore - first M60
Matt Hurford - first M40
Julie Scholey - first F55
Men second team: Doug Nicholls, Matt Hurford, Ed Donovan and Stuart Crees.
The prizes are alcohol and they are in my car. Ralph was the only one to receive his prize personally.
Race presentation was late due to numbers.

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen.
This is a party political broadcast on behalf of the Les Croupiers party.
Are you fed up of positive spin from the politicians?
You ain't heard nothing yet!
On Wednesday evening, at the Merthyr Mawr Lane 5km, we had 49 finishers, our most ever.
This has been an annual fixture since 2004, and a mob match between the combined strength of Bridgend and Brackla, and ourselves since 2005. Two years ago 152 athletes complete the course. On Wednesday it was 478. The first person I met on arrival was Stuart Davidson, a Bridgend stalwart who I've known for 40 years. He confirmed my suspicions. "This place has gone parkrun crazy" he explained. And it wasn't just Bridgend and Brackla who had benefitted. They each had slightly over 40 runners - a little less than us as individual clubs, but their combined strength was overwhelming. But new clubs Cwm Ogwr had 87 finishers and Pencoed Panthers had 53.
And who brought parkrun to Wales? We did! Thanks to the vision and determination of Phil Cook!
Those numbers had consequences for the organisation of the event. The race presentation was scheduled for 8.45PM. At 10 o'clock, it still wasn't over, and I was asked how to work out the scoring of the mob match. You didn't need to hold the race to know what happened.
By coincidence, Rhodri Morgan's funeral was on Wednesday, at Cardiff Bay.
Bear with me, the events are connected. Rhodri wasn't just an inspirational first minister for Wales. He was a passionate sportsman, both as a competitor and as an ambassador. On many occasions Rhodri was our guest of honour at Cardiff Castle at the end of the Welsh Castles Relay. He was also patron of Welsh Athletics. What may be less well known was his stature as an athlete. I have a result from the "Round the Factories" 5 miles in Bridgend from 29 April, 1979. Rhodri was 20th in 27:48. Yes, just outside five and a half minute miling. On 25th September 1983, in the Cardiff (Western Mail) Marathon, Rhodri was 126th in 3:01:13 (just before his 44th birthday). He was well known on the running circuit. And he loved his beer.
And so - back to Merthyr Mawr Lane. Had Rhodri been there, he would have loved it. The ultimate man of the people would have loved to have seen the sport being enjoyed by so many.
We live in worrying times. The health of the nation is a topic on everyone's lips. The obesity crisis, left unchallenged, will affect all of us - not only in terms of health, but in terms of wealth. Just being at Merthyr Mawr gives you hope!
Did I ever mention that we're the greatest club on the planet?

So who won the mop then?

Perhaps the mob match should be between different clubs, now that Cwm Ogwr is so strong.

It wasn't us! And yes, I believe this fixture needs to be reconsidered in terms of challenges.
