I bought some spikes in case I get caught out with the weather at Brecon. They are quite narrow on the toe but im thinking I may get used to that, they said thats normal but it does concern me slightly.

I got some 9mm spikes as they didnt have 12mm and tactically it could be better as the 12mm could bend easier and cause you to lose your balance if you hit a hard surface.

If its dry I will use my trail shoes but I decided I need another option just in case. They feel a bit tight but perhaps its something that I will forget when im running. There is room on the toe its just they are a bit constricted on the sides.

Im thinking about wearing them in (without the spikes) around work at night.

I just wondered if anyone else had found spikes a bit of a narrow fit and if it caused them any issues?

Looks like spikes at the moment, 12mm if it's softer. If the mud is going to stick to your soles wear spikes if less sticky wear studs.

if they feel tight on your toe, I don't think they'll get better. when you get them wet they're going to shrink and be even tighter. if you haven't worn them take them back and get a pair that is at least one size bigger.

Mine are a much narrow fit, and thus feel tighter around the sides and around my toes, but I haven't been any worse off for this - as you don't run any great distance in them.

Spikes are always narrower and a tighter fit, that is the way they are designed, they should be an extension of your foot not an addition. Spikes are very different to wearing trainers, as long as they aren't too small and crippling your feet, also spikes tend not to shrink these days due to the materials used.

I'm thinking of getting spikes, should I just get my shoe size or go up a size as with road trainers?

I've got very narrow feet so hopefully they won't fee that snug!

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I recently bought a pair of spikes and had to get the same size as my road shoes i.e. 1 size bigger than my normal/work shoes.

I think with mine besides they are suposed to be narrower they have that new shoe feel.

I never had an problems once I got out there.

The only thing I did notice doing the Cross Country was that my calfs ached more than usual afterwards.

I can only put this down to my feet shifting in the mud putting extra stress on them when trying to stay balanced?

Your calves will feel tighter after wearing spikes, this is basically because your calf and Achilles are doing more work due to the near non existent sole which is different to trainers which ate built up
