Hi Everyone,

you may have read in the press recently about the '401 challenge'being undertaken by Ben Smith from Bristol. For those who have not yet done so, below is a summary of the Challenge from the web-site http://www.the401challenge.co.uk

On the 1st September 2015 I will begin one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my life. I will be undertaking a ‘World Record’ attempt which will see me run 401 marathons in 401 consecutive days around 309 different locations of the UK mainland. The challenge will aim to raise both awareness of the issues of bullying in our society along with £250,000 for two amazing charities dedicated to tackling bullying. The two charities are called ‘Stonewall’ and ‘Kidscape’. Both these charities work tirelessly to support award winning initiatives which really get to the heart of bullying in our UK schools and society in all its forms.

Ben will be running 3 of those marathons in Cardiff on on 13 and 15 Nov 2015 and 5 Sep 2016. He is aiming to start between 10 am and 10.30 each time and to run at approx 10min/mile pace! Details are on the 401 web-site but in summary he will be using the CPR half marathon route x2 for each one.

The 401 Challenge seems to be getting quite a bit of press-coverage and Ben is looking for people to run with him for each of his marathons. If anyone is interested in supporting the Challenge, then please see details on the 401 web site

David.

Hi Everyone - just bringing this back to the top of the thread list. It's now 4 weeks until the 401 Challenge hits Cardiff.

Andrea and Graham Webster are planning to run separate halves of the challenge with Ben on Friday 13th Nov. It would be terrific if we could get as many people running (in club vests?) on the Sunday 15th Nov as well to augment / replace the usual Sunday long run.

David.

David, thank for bringing this back up. I will be joining Ben on the Sunday but due to a work commitment can't do the Friday. Ben will be staying at my house so it close to the start for him. If anyone else from the club can lend their support in anyway (able to clip/trim him hair, offer sports massage etc) all help will be gratefully received by Ben.

Hope to see some of the Sunday runners join us for this - after a slightly later lie in. Club vests would be good for any publicity shots!

Hi all, anyone at a lose end this Friday or coming Sunday 13th & 15 Nov? Ben is taking on the Cardiff element of his 401 marathons in 401 days. Would be great if we could get a good turnout of Cardiff runners to join him. The route will be a half marathon route twice so you don't need to do the whole distance - or even half, join in wherever you can. The route starts at the changing rooms on the spine road down from the stables in pontcanna fields.

http://www.the401challenge.co.uk/

I will post the exact start time but believe it will be between 10-10:30 on those days. We need a strong Cardiff welcome.

His pace will be around 10min miles

The route is the CPR Half twice.

That reminds me,Ange, anyone else up for the full 26 miles next Sunday? At least the route avoids any hills,so should be no problem at all!

I'm thinking of attempting the full two laps on Sunday, Dave. I think Carol was also tempted when I mentioned it!

Work means I won't be able to be there on the Friday, but Graham and Andrea Webster said they were planning to join Ben that day and run a lap each.

Excellent, Paul and Carol and everyone else. Probably no need to make an excuse for Friday if planning 2 laps on Sunday. Looks like our next Sunday is sorted then! Think Ben may have a big group with him on Sunday and hope it goes well for Graham and Andrea on Friday.

Just seen that the Mo Run is on in Cardiff this Sunday (starting at 10am). Start / Finish is in Coopers field so not sure whether this will effect the run - just something to be aware of as there may be a lot of people around (especially around Sofia Gardens).

Hope to join you for part of the 2nd lap :-)
