Good race coming up again this Wednesday (2nd July) - 25th anniversary of the Cwmcarn Scenic 7, organised by Islwyn Running Club. It's a tough 7 miler around the forest drive, all on traffic-free road. Starts at 7pm, entry on the night. Always used to clash with Cosmeston relays. Les Croupiers won the women's team prize last year.

I did this last year and really enjoyed it. The first couple of miles are mainly uphill, which makes it quite tough at the beginning but the last few miles are all downhill. I've run the course as part of The Great Gwent Poppy Run during the last couple of years too.

I overheard someone at parkrun this morning saying that this might be the last Scenic 7 as they're having to remove lots of diseased trees. I don't know how true it is that it will be the last one, but this year's Poppy Run has been brought forward to September as the Forest Drive is closed throughout November to allow them to clear the diseased trees.

Marcus, yes I am tempted, but will need to ok it with my wife, although that's not usually a problem. I work in Cwmbran so it's only a slight diversion on the way home for me. I'm on call this week at work so I just hope I don't get called while I'm halfway round the course! I've often done the Thursday night club runs while I've been on call though. I just might get disturbed by a phone call on the way round! Once I'm on the homeward stretch then I can relax!
