I have now got a lot more freedom to run the Park Runs and its now the highlight of my week. I find I seem to keep chipping the seconds off and I'm a lot more focused on developing my speed as a result. Im also finding I'm getting more of a feel for the pace of it.

I have never been a big fan of the distance and have always done it as a measure of where I am, or to help me develop my speed. Lately I am finding I'm actually enjoying it and I'm excited to see how much quicker I can run it.

I was just wondering how many Park Runs should you race consecutively? I have noticed a lot of people run it easy but I think I would find that tough. If I had to I would opt for an easy training run.

Lyndon, glad you have more time to do PR's and your times are tumbling.
After a while the times will stop improving and you will end up chasing your proverbial tail.
That's the time when you discover there's more to PR than running hard each Saturday morning, volunteering, meeting up for coffee afterwards, making new friends outside the club and from other clubs and none club runners.
All these things have come to me just by going to PR and without it I would not of joined Les Croupiers.
PS every 4-6 weeks target a Saturday and go for it.

Lyndon - I think Roy has given you some good advice here.
I often use the analogy of a bank balance - when you train you put money in, when you race you take money out.
You need to race often enough to stay sharp, but not too often. I tend to race 30 times a year maximum, when I was younger it might be 40 times. Never underestimate the power of recovery.
Successive racing of parkrun will ultimately have a negative effect.

It depends what you mean by 'Race' i regularly do parkrun hard, 95%, but hold off flat out final 400m which is the bit that does the damage. Prgoressive runs are good practice for pacing e.g. 4min for first km, then 3m50, 3m40, 3m30 and 3m20 - 18.10 overall. Feels good as you are overtaking people the whole way too!

Mix it up by running other parkruns too. The courses at Pontypridd and Bryn Bach are quick too (though not completely flat) and Newport is mixed/off road whilst Pontypool is undulating and twisty.
