Hi all. I am new to all forms of distance running but Since entering this years Cardiff Half I have built up my distance so that I can comfortably do a HM distance in about 1 hour 45. Not super fast but I am sure it will get better by race date.
I have now been offered a guaranteed entry to the Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon. However, it turns out it is the week after the Cardiff Half.
How feasible is it to run a full marathon (having never run one before) 7 days after running a half marathon. Should I just turn down the place in the full marathon given my inexperience and the fact that I am definitely going to run the Cardiff Half?
Cheers Marcus.

Training for a marathon will be different from how you train for the Cardiff Half. If you train properly for the marathon then racing the Cardiff Half a week beforehand will certainly risk your best chances in the marathon itself. To train for the marathon you'll need to do milage that is beyond that required for the half, so probably won't be on best form to race the half properly anyway. In my opinion, trying to do both so close would mean you run neither well.

Thats about the size of it.
I wouldn't consider doing a Marathon unless I did it for an optimum result. If you care about your time do one or the other.
In honesty I took a chance on doing a ten mile one Sunday and a Half the next. I figured it was worth the risk.
It was the right decision because the Half was cancelled. It probably would have left me wondering what if though if it wasn't.

Cheers both. To be fair, I am not sure how I would cope with the marathon anyway at my current level so you have both reinforced my feeling on the matter.
Thanks for taking the time to reply. I'll stick with the Cardiff Half.
