Hi

If you fancy a change, a new fell race takes place starting from the Black Cock Inn, Waunwaelod Way, Caerphilly, Mid Glamorgan CF83 1BD. It is 6.2 Km with an ascent of 370m.

Link to garmin course: http://connect.garmin.com/course/5483239.

Thanks for the post Simon. You just beat me to it. Further details below.

Entry on the day: £3
Registration, car parking and prize giving: Mountain View Ranch (Castell Heights Golf), Heol Penybryn, Caerphilly, CF83 1NG

The access to which is approx. 200m south of the Black Cock Pub. The new owners have kindly let us use their car park for free so please make a purchase at their newly developed ranch building where they have very comfortable sofas, a canteen and coffee shop which serves homemade Welsh beef burgers, Ranch Chilli Dogs, Nachos, Baked Potatoes and a selection of hot drinks and homemade cakes! Saturday opening times are 0830-1700. Big play area for the kids too!

The roads in the immediate vicinity are narrow so I discourage parking on these.

Please note that the race start is just under 1km away so allow plenty of time for registration and walking to the start line. Registration will cease at 1345 and no late-comers will be allowed to race.

Regards

Gary - race organiser

Thanks to Gary for organising this. This is my favorite area for running and it should be a great race. The Black Cock is very dog friendly too. So go for a run and take the hound for a beer after.

Hi all

The managers at the Black Cock pub have changed their mind on letting us use their car park because they have seen an increase in trade on Saturday afternoons and don't think they'll have room for us.

Luckily the new owners at the Mountain View Ranch have allowed us to use their car park for parking, registration and prize giving. Please refer to my amended post above for further details.

Thanks Gary for letting us know the change of parking.

This race and others on Saturdays is advertised in the Welsh Fell running Calendar which can be viewed online http://www.wfra.me.uk/index.htm or join the WFRA and get the calendar free BigGrin

Gary you will always get a late comer when it involves fell runners.
Visited the café just to check it out, the staff are very friendly, the place is large but with an atmosphere that felt relaxing and I believe they cook hot meals on the W/E, top marks from me.

A great little race. The weather was ' interesting'. Thanks to Gary for organising, the marshals for ensuring damp hypothermia, and the growing band of Croups fell runners. It's the size of the cake not the speed of the run that really matters.

The race will be returning in 2015 on Sat 24th January (now corrected). Don't say I didn't give you advance warning this time. Details on parking to follow nearer time. 2pm start.

Thanks for the early confirmation Gary. You clearly have a considerable amount of support for your race from within our club.
How technical is it?
My very limited experience of fell running has been two Saunders (under the strict tutelage of Tim 'Cake' O'Sullivan), several Pentyrch and a recent Llanthony Fell.

Hi Mike. There's no loose rocks to run over like in some other fell races so not too technical. It's mainly on trails with a little bit off-trail. Come along and try it.

Thanks for the amended date Gary. Sounds like my level - Llanthony was an interesting course but quality cakes.
