Cool
Greetings team
I was reflecting on our year and how much fun it has been with you guys and girls.
So many miles, so much fun!

Then I just thought to myself...what else could we do?

We have a lot of people in our club from all kinds of backgrounds, roles, jobs and abilities etc.

So I thought with this pool of ability what could we do to achieve more?
Apart from, with regards to our addiction (Running).

What can Les Croupiers do to make a bigger difference to either our local community, Cardiff or even Wales?

There are lots of talents in our club and I was just wondering how we could harnace them all to help others?

Surely there is more me could do as a club to help others???

There are hundreds of us after all.

What could hundreds of people do to help others?

So I put it to you all that we get our thinking caps on and achieve huge things in 2018.

Which much love to you all.

Stu

A very intrested throught Stu. I have been a member of the club since 2000 and have seen it change alot. One of our biggest issues have been that we have been viewed as a fast runners club and still in some ways are. People still say I'm too slow for croupis. But that is not the case. With more and more clubs and groups starting up every year I do think we need to try and think of ways to keep our club attractive. What about a question and answer session during the run up to the Cardiff Hslf?

You might be interested to hear about a national organisation, GoodGym, which has recently partnered with parkrun.

Read up on GoodGym Cardiff here.

1. We could select a local charity on an annual/monthly basis (after voting) and donate. This would help them and raise the profile of our club.
We could work out finer details later.

2. We could help out a member in need.
Members ask for help with something and then we can all do our bit to help them out.

3. We could help out a small local business for positive acknowledgement of our support.
Vote on who it should be

4. We could start a Croups monthly food bank for those who are less fortunate.
Just bring a tin/packet in on a Thursday and they would all add up by the last Thursday of each month.
Something is better than doing nothing.

5. We could help raise awareness of local issues and difficulties with whatever.

6. We could bring in our old clothes/shoes on an annual basis and donate them to a local charity

7. Could donate 1 hour after park run to help someone out in the Local Community or raise awareness at this time.

Just wanted to get ideas going and a foundation to build on.
Clearly, this is a very quick rough draft.
I know that our time is limited and life is busy but there are always people that need help.
We can find fast and effective ways to achieve this.

Sorry tired and going to bed now.
Stay safe one and all.

Stu

A lot of motorcycle clubs do an annual toy run where they deliver toys to somewhere like a local hospital which needs them. We could maybe have a similar event where we have a social run, say from the club to, for instance Noah's Ark, drop off a toy each and then go and have a coffee somewhere. Just a thought.

In America there is a Girls on the Run programme that inspires and encourage girls through running The aim is to encourage girls to reach their full unlimited potiential and increase their confidences. Maybe we could start something simillar. Also I notice that Park Run is starting events in prisons may be we could start one in Cardiff Prison or Park Priosn in Bridgend.

I really like your ideas, Stu. I think if your proposal were to gain momentum, it would be either on the basis that we decide, as a club, to 'give something' or 'do something'. So, in the giving something category, you've given some great ideas, like having a monthly donation round-up for food banks. I think this idea is great and is something I would personally be really up for. Perhaps we could extend this to having a bi-annual round-up of old running clothes (and other clothes?) for the homeless, women's refuges, refugee/asylum seeker groups, etc.

Also lending our support to groups such as the one run by Oasis charity which aims to get refugees and asylum seekers into running, either by volunteering, giving equipment, money, etc? Although not sure if Oasis is currently running that group. However, I'm sure there are more groups like this working with people from all sorts of backgrounds.

Another thing, Stu, Cardiff Foodbank sometimes does collections of food at Tesco on Saturdays. If I remember right, the shifts are 9-11, 11-1, 1-3, etc., so the 11am shift could work if a few of us wanted to do that.
