Definite yes for Pembrey Park - far superior course to Glebelands (grim!)

No Bridgend this year! Nice to have a fixture on our doorstep. I loved Glebelands and Pembrey so don't mind either and wouldn't have minded both! Pontypool was a horrible course last time so not looking forward to that especially if it's wet and muddy!

And don't forget the new club kit on offer, the long sleeve top was designed with the Gwent league in mind, no need to wear a second top under your club vest ever again, and a bargain at £24 plus free postage and packing, bargain. 😁

Llandaff fields is perfectly timed as a sharpener before The Great South Run. Fingers crossed I can threaten my 10 mile Pb. As long as I can keep things going then no reason why not. 10 miles is definitely my favourite.

Be nice to be alot more consistent this coming season too! Smile

Can any regular Gwent League runners recommend a good cross country shoe? I'm an over-pronator, so spikes wouldn't give me cushioning or support. I'd like to buy a inov8 model possibly, or would be grateful for any other suitable suggestions. Ideally, I'm hoping to find one which will cope well with mud, etc.
Diolch/Thanks

AGM

The AGM of the League took place on 1 June. Below you wil find the main points and decisions.

Fixtures and dates 2018-2019

1 Saturday 13 October 2018 Llandaff Fields, Cardiff subject to a formal agreement.

2 Saturday 10 or Sunday 11 November 2018 – Pembrey Park

3 Saturday 1 December or Sunday 2 December 2018 - TBA

4 Saturday 9 February or Sunday 10 February 2019 - TBA

5 Saturday 2 March 2019 Blaise Castle, Bristol

You will see that we have only been able to confirm three fixtures so far. Please consider whether your club (individually or with another) or organisation can host a fixture.

January 2020

There has been a proposal that the League consider holding their fourth fixture of the season in January. The March date would not be used. Please let us have your views.

Cancelled Fixtures

It was agreed that (for clarification) the following paragraph be added to the Rules for Competition.

"If for any reason a fixture is cancelled and not rearranged, the season’s awards (individual and team) will be based on the reduced number of fixtures. With regard to the rule about Awards for Masters and athletes under 23 the qualifying number of races will be reduced accordingly."

Safety Officer

There were two applications for Safety Officer. It was agreed that both applications be accepted.
The officers are Gareth Elliott and Lesley Stowe.

Athletes Under 23

University athletes under the age of 23 who run in the Senior races will be charged £4 per race but will not get any refund.

Senior Club Award

There has for a number of years been an award for the Leading Junior Club. It was agreed that a similar award be made for the Leading Senior club (taking into account team positions in the senior and masters age groups). This award would be called the John H Collins award for Leading Senior Club. This award will be made for the first time for the 2018-2019 season.

Renaming the League

It was agreed that the League be renamed the John H Collins Gwent Cross Country League. A re-branding process would be undertaken.
Sheila Crump Award to a volunteer

It was agreed that this award for 2017-2018 be made to Geraint Torrington Westbury Harriers.

Gilbert Legge Award to a club

This award is made to a club that has shown ‘true sportsmanship, endeavour and achievement ‘. For 2017-2018 this award was made to Carmarthen Harriers.

John Davies still holds some awards from last season. Please arrange to collect them at the first fixture of the 2018-19 season.

Great idea to drop the March date and have a fixture in January instead.

The thing which should be of concern is that only 3 venues have been confirmed.
There is a genuine shortage of organisations willing to host a Gwent League - it's not as easy as you think.
