He's done it again. Steve Speirs won the Cayman Islands Marathon on Sunday 4th December in 2:58:48.
It was Steve's third win in the race, having won in 2009 and 2010. However, this time it was a bonus as he is 50 years old.
I can't remember any other member of the Croups ever winning a marathon at 50. He's also been runner up in this race five times. A lovely story from the man who started out his career at the age of 15 when a schoolboy at Willows High School, Cardiff, placing 375th in the 1982 Barry Half Marathon, sponsored by Dow Corning and largely organised by Les Croupiers.(Steve now lives in Virginia Beach, USA, but his mum still lives in Cardiff). He joined this club via an E Mail to Croups website.
You wouldn't believe it, would you? (because for years, nobody did! It's about as likely as a sub 2 hour marathon.
