I am pondering on a few 10 mile and half marathon distances on the proviso that I avoid falling down, spraining an ankle or one of these things I do really well in. I think I need to get some races in so that I have some focus/structure in my runs else I lapse into some rut or meandarings.

Roman Run 2016 is one I am looking at as it is nearest to me.

Is it as difficult as I have heard?

Thanks

I wouldn't recommend it if you're fearful of twisting an ankle. It's around a mile and a half flat start then about 6-7 miles over the hills on very stony uneven rutted ground. Then back on the road for the remainder of the race which is undulating.

Sospan 10 is good as a multi terrain race, as is the FoD half, but like all off road races the feet do twist and turn. You might be better off sticking to the road races.

I agree with Roy, it is not as bad as you think.

Ai-Lin.
I agree with Amanda's description.
DO NOT do the Roman run if your worried about twisting your ankle. That 2 mile section is very bad with large rocks to try and avoid. The rest of the run is fine.

The Roman is alright. It's not too bad. You can twist an ankle doing any race although there is more chance off road. At the end of the day it is a personnal thing. I did it once and would love to do it again. If I remember right there were load cakes and sarnies afterwards.

I enjoyed the Sospan 10 but I wouldn't say it was an easy course. Mostly flat but lots of lumps and bumps and sliding through sand. If it rains it could be very slippy underfoot. One or two people have got lost on it too.

I dont see how you can get lost in either race sospan 10 or Roman Run. The routes are hardly complex.

Both a good races.
