Its 20 years since they have had one! I cant find a course map. You have to do two laps of the car park at the end to complete the distance which seems odd?
There are a number of roads to cross and warnings that there could be cars! It takes in a fair chunk of the Taff Trail from 6.5 miles on. As the race hasn't been run for so long there are no reviews or clues to its difficulty. I might have to suck it and see.
I will report back what I think of it anyway. I hope it will give me an official time although it probably wont matter too much as I wont be getting a PB its more about Marathon preparation.
A half marathon will take place in Merthyr Tydfil next year after the town’s running club confirmed it will be hosting the event.
Hundreds of people have already signed up for the 13.1 mile race – which will take place on Sunday, March 22.
It will be the first time since the 1980s that a half marathon has been held in the town.
Merthyr Running Club set up the event after the success of last year’s 5K race in the town.
Sarah Draper, 39, who runs the running club, said: “The response to the race so far has been amazing.
“I started the running club two-years ago and it’s gone from strength to strength.
“We organised the 5k race last year which was great and so we thought we’d arrange a longer one next year.
“I know there were a couple of half marathons in Merthyr in the 1980s but there hasn’t been one for a long time in the town.”
The race will start in the town centre at 10am before doing one lap of the Taff and Trevithick Trail.
It’s hoped the day will have a carnival atmosphere with live music and stalls.
Sarah, who lives in Merthyr and now works as a personal trainer, added: “This is one of my favourite running routes and it will be great to experience it while running the half marathon.
“I want people to join in who might not usually run but can experience taking part in this in their home town.
“We will also have a kids race and are hoping to get bands and stalls along for the day.
“We’ve seen people come to us who are overweight and lacking confidence and running has completely transformed their lives.
“That’s something that happened to me when I first started and it would be great if we can help even more people.”
Entry to the race costs £15 for running club members and £17 for everyone else.
