Hi
I have signed up for Bog and Bryn Challenge and Merthyr Mawr Pudding race. I only own road trainers and I'm not sure whether to go for fell or trail trainers. I do intend to sign up for Gwent League so also need appropriate footwear for that. Any thoughts?
I don't particularly want to buy both options. I guess ideally I want a "cover all" trainer which i could use on road (albeit for a limited period) and off road trails/challenging terrain.
I appreciate that if conditions are really bad, it probably makes no difference what I wear on my feet!
Many thanks Carol

Hi Carol
Here's my advice. Both the Bog and Bryn and Merthyr Mawr pudding races are more 'obstacle' races than proper off road races. As both involve a lot of mud and water (which can be thigh deep if the weather is bad) then you might as well just wear an old pair of trainers which you don't mind getting trashed.
The Gwent League is different of course. Those who run this regularly tend to run in spiked XC shoes. Some may use fell/studded off road shoes, especially if the course is stony. In very bad weather when the ground is very soft with lots of mud, hardly anything gives you grip.
