They are neutral shoes as are my new trainers but I am showing my older ones to more clearly show the wear..

Another training shoe with revisited midsole materials, the 1080v4 is the most substantial NB shoe and the biggest heel-toe drop of all that we reviewed, and that was duly noted by our test team. One tester classified this traditional training shoe as “neutral plus” because the firm midsole with added cushioning provided plenty of underfoot shock absorption and stability. Testers found it appropriate for heavier runners who seek protection and cushioning and want the stiffer.

The problems seemed to start when I switched to 880 shoes which are similar but with less cushioning. I found I have been getting hamstring problems and a tight glute on the right hand side. Is the wear on my trainers significant? The toe wear seems pretty heavy on the left shoe.

Lyndon,

Now is not the time to be thinking about this 7-10 days before your marathon. Focus on a sucessfull marathon which you deserve as you have trained well.

After your marathon if you want your gait checked into - Its been a while but i've used Ace feet in motion and I'd recommend him. I think others have had similar good experience with him,

I agree with James, not the time to think about it, however if after the marathon you want to check it out, Amy at ACE was recommended to me. She seemed very thorough and fixed my foot pain, but unfortunately using new insoles right near the end of marathon training has flared up hamstring/back issues worse than ever. They do advise to break them in gradually but if you are given them, I'd make sure your clear exactly how quickly to up the miles and over what period of time. Think that's where I messed up. Easy to see in hindsight.

Lyndon,

You have loads of natural tallent and ability.

You've done runs to 18 miles the key for you is DONT GO OFF TO FAST. Set out at a sensible pace and you will be fine , with the right gels energy back up..you will be fine.. . no problems.

The Podiatrist at Ace Feet thought I was a Squash or Badminton player! I have been locking and pivoting my big toes which has been causing me to brake on every step! Very rare for a runner to do this.

I have been given an Orthotic to stop the problem by raising my heel and adjusting how my foot lands. This shouldn't just stop the pain it should make me more efficient too!

Glad you got some useful info from Ace Feet...

Just checking your wear pattern again on the image you posted, I thought the wear was quite high. How many miles have you done in them? These days I wouldn't expect to get much more than about 4-500 miles out of a pair of trainers. The bit that wears is the cushioning, which loses resiliency, rather than the outer sole.

I have had a fair bit of wear but to illustrate the problem look at the left foot of my new trainers. You can see looking at the toe that I have worn through the sole and into the leather underneath on the end of the trainer! This is from the constant pushing and pivoting of my big toe. Cant be good!

It will be interesting to see what a difference the orthotics make. Stopping the pain is massive as then I can increase my miles and it wont be a continual struggle. If it makes me more efficient that would be a welcome bonus!

My hamstrings are very short and I also need to work on them. Hopefully between the Physios and the Podiatrist I can begin to move forwards again.

There are many pieces to the puzzle of getting the best out of yourself. I think this is a huge one for me. It is very hard to find them all and to make it work but you can only keep trying. All part of the fun I suppose. Smile
