Don't be dismayed at the fading of summer, look forwards to the events that thrive in the Welsh moist, mild and muddy climate. A series of short, cheap and friendly races. Full details on www.wfra.me.uk.

It all kicks off with Sugar Loaf on October 25. All races are on Saturdays at 2 pm and involve cafes or pubs. Fell shoes and a waterproof top are sensible, but more kit may be needed if the weather is interesting.

Bored by marathons or stressed chasing road PBs? See Simon Hazel, Roy Silver, Caitlin Pearson, John Magee, Katie Beecher or me for more advice and reasons why you should run up hills in the rain.

Sensible people doing silly things.
