I found my time on the alphabetical list 1.24.24. Its about 32 seconds slower than my Garmin but I may have started it late in all of the drama.I don't know if it would count as a time and I'm convinced its well short of what I could have ran. Its a time though and its better than nothing. Im not sure if it will stand as the race was officially cancelled. http://www.sheffieldmara...lf%20Marathon%202014.pdfI know one thing, when those Castles time trials come around I'm not pulling any punches!

Lyndon, this is one of the best stories for ages. Please write an article for ACE - the great Sheffield Half Marathon Rip Off - I was there! Should be a best seller!

Will do Mick! The best part about it is I was going to wear a head camera to the race! I didn't bother afterwards thinking it would probably be a bit dull! The bbc would have paid me a hefty sum for the footage if I had. The police chase at the beginning and the incredible scenes of support from local businesses and the people of Sheffield was phenomenal, and would have made a unique in race video. I had discussed this prior to the event on a forum and with a friend of mine who is a music producer with the technical expertise and he was up for editing it.Wish I had, it would have been worth the £300 for the trip.

Hi Lyndon, Commiserations on the Sheffield half marathon debacle. Any article (or indeed photos etc.) that you can send me would be gratefully received for ACE magazine. My email is: howard@hydrazine.co.uk |

Call me a bit thick but how can you plan a big race like that and not have water? OK Cardiff in its early years had a water problem but it was never cancelled. Personally I very rarely drink on a half marathon. Anyway well done to everyone that ran anyway.

Another interesting issue this raises is "Health And Safety". Is it killing our sport? Its obviously having a big effect on Ultras, but is that just the thin end of the wedge? Former minister criticises 'risk averse' sport culture http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-26923501

I would like to say they wouldn't do it again but they didn't learn from the many complaints about lack of toilets last year.

For the summer edition of ACE, but if you can provide an article, then it's usually better to get things down on paper as soon after the event as possible, as you remember them better. So, the next few weeks would be good, thanks. |
