Not long til the Thursday club run. As Les Croupiers membership is growing at a great rate, I'm going to take the opportunity to remind LCRC members, newer and long-standing, about what (in my opinion) makes a good club run.

Membership of the club brings a sense of belonging, and with that, a collective responsibility for ourselves and others. Whilst each of us is responsible for our own safety, it's darn common sense - and polite - that we look out for each other and that no runner is left to run alone. It's a group run after all. If someone slows up a little, slow up with them. If someone needs to stop, make sure they are safe to return to the Club. Even better, return to the Club with them. That's what friends do.

There are so many folks starting out from the Club on a Thursday evening that it can be easy to 'lose' people. This makes it all the more important that you decide what distance to run, and roughly what pace, prior to your run, form into smaller groups and acquaint yourself with those in your group, and then stick together, so no one gets forgotten (it's all too easy).

Because we're so great in numbers, if you're coming along for the first time, or are relatively new, it's important that you make yourself known - there's a lot of new faces. Put yourself out there and make sure you can join a group prior to the club run. Don't be shy.

The Club training sessions are intended to be inclusive. As a Club there has been considerable effort over the last year to recruit new members - we want to keep our newer members! There is some excellent guidance on the LCRC website regarding the purpose of sessions and safety guidelines. http://www.lescroupiersr...rg.uk/training-sessions/

Thanks for listening - and have a good Thursday run!

Really important points Karen. When I joined the club 2 years ago, I was the slowest runner in the "slowest" group doing the Club Run, and was always very appreciative of the support I had from the group. In particular, you, David McDonald and John Payne were really good at pushing me to keep up with the rest, which is how I improved. I miss having those groups/leaders, and for runners who haven't joined with a group of friends, it can be harder to assimilate. Would it be possible to at least have a nominated tail runner with a club hi-vis vest for the 5 and 7 mile routes?
