One of the members has been told he has osteoporosis, and I said I would get some information for him. Unfortunately I couldn't get to the Parkrun today, because of a family problem, and I'm not sure when I'll be going again. Hopefully he will see the thread.

Dietary advice, not specifically for osteoporosis, but very relevant.

I have this too was describe calcium tablets and weekly Flomax tables by my doctor. The tablets need to be taken on the same day every week as soon as you get up and you need stay still and not eat or drink anything for 30mins to an hour then you need to eat something straight away. You can't lay down only sit down. It's a pain but it does work and I was told it was the best treatment available. Regular scans are needed too. I no longer need to take the Flomax tablets but take calcium tablets and have scans. It's important to keep running as it is a weight bearing form of exercise which keeps the bones strong and to drink lots of milk and eat things such as yogurts, cheese and leafy green veg. It was a shock when I found out as I run a lot and drink milk like there is no tomorrow but I believe it could of been inherited as my Mum and Gran also suffered from it. I hope this helps

Hi Tracey.

According to Dr Joel Fuhrman, drinking milk can contribute towards osteoporosis. Milk does contain calcium, but it causes people to urinate out the calcium, leading to a negative calcium level. Have a look at the links in the original post.

Best of luck.

Joel Fuhrman a quack? I don't think so.

Dr Fuhrman’s high-nutrient, vegetable-based diet style is a key to optimal health, increased longevity and disease prevention. High-nutrient eating, as a therapeutic intervention, is often MORE effective than drugs and surgery at restoring health from chronic diseases.

At the end of the day, we come to our own decisions, and act on them. If you think Fuhrman's ideas are garbage - then that's fine! Life's too short to get too serious. Anyway, enough of this, I'm off to Hamburg. Tschüss!

Apols Toom, and have fun in Hamburg. A healthy diet would do me the world of good!

But if I were worried about osteoporosis, a horrible disease like MS, or any potentially significant medical issue, I'd not faff about and go see a GP

As my youngest keeps reminding me (aka Goldacre) any medicine that isn't evidence based, probably isn't medicine

A decade watching a friend suffer & die from MS, getting fleeced by quacks, also took its toll. 'Remission' = £££s for some
