It's the Cardiff Half Marathon on Sunday so here's a music competition.

Click the link below & you should hear a famous 1970's group playing a classical piece of music, that if memory serves, was used at some athletics competitions on the TV. (Please correct me if I'm having a senior moment!)

Who was the group?
Who was the composer?

Have a good run!

The group are Emerson, Lake and Palmer performing "Fanfare for the Common Man".
The composer is Aaron Copland (cos I looked it up!) I'm thick otherwise!

Well done Mick. You may be thinking of the Superstars theme tune, Howard! However I think they may have playing Fanfare for the Common Man in the stadium for the medal ceremonies on the last day in Lyon - yes, in amongst that thumping stuff you were dancing to, Mick.

I'd never have guessed what it was, but that piece of music transports me to the late 70s - was it used in a Superman film? I'm also sure it was used for Scottish TV early evening news around that time (would've been BBC, we weren't allowed to watch ITV).

It's got a whiff of 'London Marathon' about it, but don't think it's the same piece.

They're not my favourite band for nothing :)

In my Hippy days ! I saw Keith Emmerson, of ELP at the Bath festival in the late 60's. He was headlining with his earlier band The Nice.
Ironically it was Greg Lake of ELP, that replaced my running friend (Peter Giles) in the band King Crimson.
They both went on to form super group ELP with (ex crazy world of Arthur Brown) drummer Palmer.
